MITCHELL KERNELS
— Mitchell Marlins girls hockey lost to Oahe on Thursday 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the state hockey tournament at the Mitchell Activities Center. Livaya Mimmack scored Mitchell’s only goal midway through the second period to cut the deficit to 2-1. Mitchell takes on No. 7 Rushmore at Noon today in the consolation semifinals.

— No. 7 Mitchell Kernels girls basketball will host No. 10 Spearfish at 6 pm on Friday in the Class AA SoDAK 16. Coverage starts at 5 pm with the KORNer Booth on KORN News Radio. Both teams finished the regular season with a 12-8 record. Spearfish defeated Mitchell on February 7, 61-55. The winner advances to the state tournament in Rapid City, March 12-14. Mitchell would face the winner between No. 2 O’Gorman/No. 15 Rapid City Central on Thursday, March 12, at 6 pm CST.

— No. 12 Mitchell Kernels boys basketball will be at No. 5 Watertown at 6 pm on Saturday in the Class AA SoDAK 16. Pregame coverage starts at 5:45 pm on KORN News Radio. Mitchell opened the season with a 59-55 overtime loss at Watertown on December 16.

DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— Dakota Wesleyan will host an opening-round site of the NAIA Women’s Basketball Tournament beginning Friday, March 13 at the Corn Palace. The Tigers earned the No. 2 seed in their quadrant and will face No. 15 St. Francis (Illinois) at 6 p.m. in Mitchell. The other first-round game features No. 7 Eastern Oregon vs. No. 10 the College of the Ozarks. The winners meet on Saturday, March 14 for a trip to the round of 16 in Sioux City.

— Dakota Wesleyan baseball lost to Southwest Minnesota State 8-7 on Thursday in Tucson, Arizona. The Tigers take on Southwest Minnesota State again today and Saturday at 11 am in Arizona.

— Dakota Wesleyan softball heads to Tucson, Arizona, this weekend with 10 games on the schedule. The Tigers face Indiana Wesleyan on Friday at 1 pm, followed by William Penn (Iowa) at 3:30 pm.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State baseball heads to U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis for three games this weekend vs. Northwestern on Friday at 11 am, vs. Minnesota on Saturday at 7 pm, and against Southern Illinois on Sunday at 10 am.

— South Dakota State women’s basketball advanced to the Summit League tournament semifinals with a 75-61 win over Kansas City on Thursday. SDSU has now won 10 straight Summit League Tournament games and advances to its 16th semifinal in 18 tournament appearances. Brooklyn Meyer had a game-high 26 points, joining Macy Miller and Myah Selland as the only three 2,000-point scorers in school history. Madison Mathiowetz added 18 points and six rebounds. The Jackrabbits take on the winner between No. 3 USD/No. 6 Denver on Saturday at 2:30 pm.

— South Dakota State men’s basketball had its season come to an end on Thursday night with an 80-67 loss to St. Thomas in the quarterfinals of the Summit League Tournament. SDSU trailed by just two points at halftime. Three Jackrabbits scored in double digits led by Jaden Jackson’s 16 points. SDSU ends the season with a 14-18 record.

— South Dakota State softball was swept in a doubleheader on Thursday at No. 5 Nebraska, 9-4 and 8-0. The Jackrabbits fall to 12-11 on the season. SDSU heads to Greeley, Colorado, this weekend where they will face Drake and Northern Colorado, both on Saturday and Sunday.

SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD men’s basketball takes on No. 5 seed Omaha on Friday at 6 pm in the quarterfinals of the Summit League Tournament. The Coyotes won both meetings this season vs. Omaha, including an 89-72 home win on February 25.

— USD women’s basketball will face the No. 6 seed Denver in the quarterfinals of the Summit League Tournament on Friday at 2:30 pm. The Coyotes won both meetings this season vs. Denver, including an 53-42 road win on February 5.

— USD softball travels to Greeley, Colorado, this weekend for five games against Northern Colorado and Colorado State.

— The Buffalo Bills have agreed to acquire wide receiver D. J. Moore from the Chicago Bears for a second and fifth-round draft pick. Moore spent three seasons in Chicago after being acquired from Carolina. He had a career low 50 catches for 682 yards last season.

NBA
— Anthony Edwards scored 22 points, including an impressive two-handed dunk over RJ Barrett, as the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Toronto Raptors 115-107 for their fifth straight victory. With Houston losing to Golden State in overtime, the Timberwolves moved one game ahead of the Rockets for third place in the Western Conference. Rudy Gobert had 18 points and 12 rebounds, Julius Randle scored 17 and Donte DiVincenzo had 16 points for the Wolves.

— LeBron James broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record for career field goals in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 120-113 loss to Denver, with the Nuggets getting 28 points each from Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic. James finished with 16 points to go with Luka Doncic’s 27. Jokic had his 23rd triple-double of the season with 28 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists.

— Victor Wembanyama had 38 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks as the San Antonio Spurs never trailed, beating the Detroit Pistons 121-106. San Antonio has won 13 of 14 games and remain three games behind Oklahoma City in second place in the West at 45-17. Detroit continues to have the best record in the East at 45-46, 4 ½ games better than Boston.
