MITCHELL KERNELS
— Mitchell Kernels boys golf competes at the Yankton Invitational on Friday at 10 am at Fox Run Golf Course.

— Mitchell Kernels football will be at Spearfish on Friday at 7 pm. The KORNer Booth pregame show starts on 6 pm on KORN News Radio.

— Mitchell Kernels girls tennis hosts Yankton and SF Lincoln for a triangular on Tuesday, starting at 10 am at Hitchcock Park.

— Mitchell Kernels boys soccer host Vermillion on Tuesday at 6 pm at Joe Quintal Field.

— Mitchell volleyball, 4-3 on the season, hosts Yankton on Thursday at 6:30 pm. The KORN pregame show starts at 6:15 pm.

— Mitchell Kernels girls soccer, 4-5 on the season, will be at Yankton on Thursday at 7 pm.


DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— Dakota Wesleyan football will be at Concordia on Saturday at 6 pm.

— Dakota Wesleyan women’s soccer hosts Dakota State on Tuesday at 6 pm at the Pepsi Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell. The Tigers are 0-1-3 on the season.

— Dakota Wesleyan volleyball, 7-5 on the season, host Dordt on Wednesday at 7:30 pm at the Christen Athletic Center in Mitchell.

— Dakota Wesleyan men’s soccer hosts the South Dakota School of Mines on Friday at 5 pm.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State volleyball travels to Minneapolis this week for the Diet Coke Class hosted by the University of Minnesota. The Jacks face Dayton on Friday at 3 pm, South Florida on Saturday at 2 pm and No. 13 Minnesota on Sunday at 3 pm. SDSU has gotten their first ever wins over a Big Ten team (Illinois) and SEC team (Ole Miss) this season and off to a 3-1 start.

— South Dakota State women’s soccer, 4-1-3 on the season, host Northern Colorado on Sunday at 1 pm.

— No. 2 South Dakota State football hosts Drake on Saturday at 6 pm. The Jackrabbit pregame show starts at 4 pm on KORN News Radio.


SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD volleyball swept Green Bay on Thursday 3-0 to open up the Coyote Invitational. Lauren Medeck had a match-high 13 kills and Avery Van Hook added 40 assists. USD faces Florida Gulf Coast on Friday 7 pm, followed by Kansas on Saturday at 5 pm.

— USD women’s soccer, 4-1-3 on the season, went to a 1-1 tie on Thursday vs. Northern Colorado. The Coyotes will be at Creighton on Sunday at 12:30 pm.

— USD football, 0-2 on the season, will be at home for the first time this season when they host Northern Colorado on Saturday at 1 pm.


MINNESOTA TWINS

— The Minnesota Twins start a three-game home series on Friday vs. Arizona. Pablo Lopez gets the start with first pitch at 7:10 pm.

 NFL
— Jordan Love threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns as the Green Bay Packers beat the Washington Commanders 27-18 on Thursday night. Tight end Tucker Kraft caught six passes for a career-high 124 yards to help the Packers improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2020.

NBA
— The NBA continues its investigation into a $28 million endorsement deal between Clippers star Kawhi Leonard and now-bankrupt company Aspiration. Reports say Leonard was paid $1.75 million shortly after a Clippers minority owner invested nearly $2 million in the company. Critics say this may have been a way to dodge the NBA salary cap. Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and the team deny any wrongdoing.

— Former NBA player Jason Collins, the league’s first openly gay player, is undergoing treatment for a brain tumor, his family announced. Collins played 13 seasons in the NBA and came out publicly in 2013, breaking barriers in professional sports. He now serves as an NBA ambassador.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL
— The NCAA has revealed that 13 former men’s college basketball players from six schools were involved in gambling schemes, including betting on and against their own teams, game manipulation, and sharing insider info with gamblers. The players were from Eastern Michigan, Temple, Arizona State, New Orleans, North Carolina A&T, and Mississippi Valley State. None are currently enrolled, and the schools themselves aren’t facing penalties.

NHL
— The NHL is reinstating five players who were acquitted of sexual assault charges stemming from an incident in 2018 when they were members of Canada’s world junior team, announcing that they will be eligible to sign a contract Oct. 15 and take part in games Dec. 1. The move comes roughly seven weeks since the five were found not guilty by a judge in London, Ontario. They were not in the NHL at the time of the incident.

— Rookie pinch-hitter Harry Ford drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the 12th inning as the Seattle Mariners beat the Los Angeles Angels 7-6 to move into a tie with Houston atop the AL West. Bryce Miller struck out a career-high 11 in 5 2/3 innings for the Mariners.

— Kevin Gausman pitched a two-hit shutout for his fourth career complete game, while Davis Schneider homered and drove in two as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Houston Astros 6-0. The Blue Jays improved to 47-25 at home on the season and 63-4 when they score five or more runs. Gausman struck out nine and walked one over nine innings, throwing 100 pitches.

— The Phillies Jesús Luzardo retired 22 straight batters after giving up four runs in the first inning as the Phillies beat the New York Mets 6-4 to complete a four-game sweep. Otto Kemp homered and had three RBIs for the Phillies, who have won eight of 10 overall and are poised to secure their second straight division title. The win pushed their NL East lead over the Mets to 11 games with 15 to play. New York dropped the last six games of a 3-7 road trip, trimming its lead over Cincinnati and San Francisco to 1 1/2 games for the final National League wild card spot.

— Rookie C.J. Kayfus hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning as the Cleveland Guardians rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Cleveland has won six of seven and took three of four in the series against Kansas City as it tries to stay in contention for the final AL wild card spot. The Guardians trail Seattle by three games with 15 games remaining.

— San Diego’s Jackson Merrill homered and Randy Vásquez struck out a career-high nine in six innings as the Padres beat the Colorado Rockies 2-0 to open a four-game series. The Padres pulled within 2 1/2 games of the first-place Dodgers in the NL West.

— Aaron Judge hit two home runs to tie Joe DiMaggio for fourth place in Yankees history as New York beat the Detroit Tigers 9-3, avoiding a three-game sweep. Giancarlo Stanton followed Judge’s second HR with his 449th homer, tying Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Jeff Bagwell for 41st on the career list.

— The White Sox Colson Montgomery and Kyle Teel drove in two runs each to back 5 2/3 scoreless innings from fellow rookie Shane Smith as Chicago beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1. The Rays have lost five of six following a seven-game win streak.

— Miami’s Eric Wagaman had three hits and drove three runs, while Ryan Weathers allowed five hits and struck out four over five innings in his first appearance in three months, as the Marlins beat the Washington Nationals 5-0.

— Baltimore rookie Dylan Beavers drove in the winning run for a second straight day as the Orioles beat the Pirates 3-2 to finish a three-game sweep and hand Pittsburgh its sixth straight loss.
