Hartman drives in four as Mitchell splits doubleheader with Roosevelt

MITCHELL, S.D. – Mitchell baseball split a home doubleheader Tuesday against Sioux Falls Roosevelt, rallying for a 7-3 win in the opener before falling 7-5 in extra innings in Game 2.

In the first game, Mitchell trailed 3-1 before breaking through with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, fueled by five consecutive hits. Jaxson Hartman led the surge, finishing with two doubles and four RBIs.

Roosevelt struck first in the second inning on a three-run double by Jack Hille. Mitchell answered in the fifth, taking a 5-3 lead on Hartman’s two-run double, followed by RBI singles from Kaiden Allen and Lincoln Bottum.

Jacob Ebert earned the win, improving to 4-1 on the season. He allowed three unearned runs on three hits over six innings, striking out seven and walking four on 108 pitches. Bottum pitched a scoreless inning in relief. Mitchell totaled 10 hits, with Hartman and Ian Weber collecting two apiece.

In Game 2, Roosevelt built a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, aided by Mitchell errors. Mitchell responded with five runs over the next three innings to take a 5-4 advantage, highlighted by a sacrifice fly from Bailor Kristensen in the third.

Roosevelt tied the game in the fifth and secured the win with two runs in the top of the eighth inning on RBI singles by Karl Hartmann and Tiernan Daly.

Mitchell out-hit Roosevelt 8-5 in the loss, with Bottum and Carter McCormick recording two hits each. Tyler Christensen pitched into the eighth inning for Mitchell, allowing six runs, four earned, while striking out five on 109 pitches. Ian Weber took the loss in relief.

Mitchell returns to action Friday, hosting Harrisburg for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m., with the KORN pregame show beginning at 4:45 p.m.
