RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota State women’s basketball team will take on the Montana Lady Griz in a nonconference contest November 15 at Summit Arena at the Monument. Tickets will go on sale to the general public through the Monument September 5 at 10 a.m.
“We are excited to welcome both teams to Rapid City,” said Craig Baltzer, Executive Director of The Monument. “We saw the excitement of Jackrabbit fans when the men’s team played here last fall, and we know this women’s matchup will draw fans and alumni from both universities.”
The Jackrabbits enter the season following a third consecutive Summit League Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. The Jackrabbits entered the national postseason as a No. 10 seed and defeated No. 7 Oklahoma State 74-68 in the opening round before falling to eventual national champion Connecticut in the second round. This marks the first NCAA Division I women’s basketball game to be held at The Monument.
“We are thrilled to bring Jackrabbit basketball to Rapid City for an exciting matchup with Montana,” said SDSU head coach Aaron Johnston. “Our West River fanbase is strong and we look forward to filling Summit Arena with SDSU fans. Montana is an excellent opponent and will help us prepare for our Summit League schedule.”
The University of Montana Grizzlies are coming off a solid 2024–25 season, finishing second in the Big Sky Conference Tournament with a 14–18 overall record and an 8–10 mark in conference play.
This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the two programs. SDSU holds a 3–0 advantage in the series, most recently winning 78–70 at Montana on December 7, 2024. The matchup with Montana is SDSU’s third Big Sky Conference opponent for the 2025-26 season.
