BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State women’s basketball led wire-to-wire Wednesday night in a 76-48 win over Dakota Wesleyan at First Bank & Trust Arena.
Led by a career-high 26 points from Haleigh Timmer, every Jackrabbit got into the scoring column in the victory. Timmer finished 9-of-12 from the floor, including 5-of-6 from deep, to go with four rebounds in 26 minutes of action. She put up 10 points in the opening period and had 21 at halftime.
SDSU made six of its first seven shots to open up a 16-3 lead over the visiting Tigers. DWU came back within eight by the end of the first quarter. Timmer knocked down two 3-pointers I the opening minutes of the second to help the Jackrabbits go back up by double digits. SDSU ended the half on an 11-2 run to lead by 20, 45-25, at the break and continued to pull away in the second half.
Brooklyn Meyer recorded 11 points for SDSU, followed by eight points, 11 rebounds and three steals for Mesa Byom. Paige Meyer and Madison Mathiowetz contributed seven points apiece and combined for nine assists.
The Jackrabbits finished the game 47 percent from the field, above .450 for the sixth time this season. SDSU had a season-high 10 steals that resulted in 18 points off turnovers.
Emma Yost was the leading scorer for the Tigers with eight points. DWU shot 33 percent from the field.
SDSU improves to 8-2 on the year with its fifth straight win. Wednesday’s game was an exhibition for Dakota Wesleyan and its record remains at 7-3 overall.
NOTES
- Timmer’s new career high of 26 points is one point better than her previous best of 25. She scored 25 against Oral Roberts in the Summit League semifinal game as a sophomore in 2023.
- The Jackrabbits corralled a season-high 46 rebounds.
