BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State recorded 11 goals, setting a program record in the process, to defeat MSU Moorhead by an 11-0 score on Sunday at Fishback Soccer Park.
The Jackrabbits opened the scoring in the third minute and began the onslaught with a trio of goals in the first 10 minutes of action. SDSU tallied seven goals across the first half of play.
South Dakota State added another four goals to its tally in the second half. The 11 goals the Jackrabbits scored in the game topped the previous program record of 10 set against Si Tanka University in 2003. That match came in SDSU’s first match ever held at Fishback Soccer Park.
A pair of Jackrabbits in Jenna Maloy and Peyton Held registered braces in the match. Both of Maloy’s goals came in the first half. Held, who scored the first goals of her college career, found the back of the net in the 30th minute and the 84th minute.
Also scoring goals for SDSU were Hannah Langstaff (third minute), Katelyn Beulke (10′), Mia Bosch (26′), Emma Brezenski (42′), Dreya Kern (47′), Selah Jackson (51′) and Brianna Finnegan (55′). The goals for Kern and Jackson were the first of their college careers.
SDSU combined for 14 assists as a team. Beulke, Lauren Eckerle and Abbi Gibbs each dished out a pair of assists. The assists for Gibbs were the first of her time in Yellow and Blue. Included on assists were Bosch, Beulke, Jackson, Brezenski, Ellie Gusman, Sophia Emerson, Bianca Eide, Deizha Lyn Jacinto and Xehlia Salanoa.
Newcomer Emery Ruliffson played a team-high 59 minutes. She was followed by Gibbs (53), Emerson (51) and Taryn Hettich (51).
South Dakota State improved to 2-0 on the season with the victory. The match served as an exhibition for the Dragons.
NOTES
- The Jackrabbits’ 36 points scored in the game obliterated the program’s previous record. SDSU established the record of 28 points in the contest against Si Tanka back in 2003.
- SDSU notched 14 assists in the match. That topped the previous school record of 11 set a season ago against Northern Colorado.
- The Jacks didn’t allow a shot to MSU Moorhead. It’s the second time SDSU has achieved the feat and first since a meeting against Wayne State two seasons ago.
