BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State women’s basketball rolled past Eastern Washington 81-58 Wednesday night at First Bank & Trust Arena.
The Jackrabbits (6-2) used a 28-point third quarter to pull away from the Eagles (2-6) in the first of two Big Sky-Summit League Challenge games for SDSU this week.
Haleigh Timmer was 6-of-9 from the floor for 15 points, leading SDSU’s 50 percent shooting effort for the game. Paige Meyer and Brooklyn Meyer added 12 points apiece, followed by Katie Vasecka with 11 to round out the Jackrabbits in double figures.
The Jacks put together a 13-0 run from the end of the first into the second that put SDSU ahead by 15 early on in the second period. EWU worked back to cut their deficit to eight at halftime with three 3-pointers in the quarter.
Out of halftime, Brooklyn Meyer put together a personal 6-0 run during a 12-0 Jackrabbit stretch to go up 20, 49-29. In total. SDSU outscored the Eagles 28-8 in the third quarter to put the game away.
Timmer and Mesa Byom tallied six rebounds each to lead the Jacks, followed by Emilee Fox, Madysen Vlastuin and Kallie Theisen with five boards apiece. Paige Meyer recorded six assists and Fox had three.
Eastern Washington got 15 points from Peyton Howard and a 13-point, 14-rebound double-double from Kourtney Grossman.
