Former Mitchell baseball player Jed Schmidt has been elected to the South Dakota High School Baseball Hall of Fame in the Class of 2023.
Schmidt was one of the top hitters and pitchers in the state during his time in Mitchell, earning all-state honors three-times and leading Mitchell to the State Legion championship game in 2017.
While at Augustana, Schmidt compiled at 3.79 ERA across 163 2/3 innings over five seasons. He was also part of the 2018 Augustana team that won the Division II National Championship.
Schmidt also won a championship with the Alexandria Angels during the 2020 South Dakota Amateur Baseball tournament
The inductions will take place on Saturday, May 27, during the South Dakota Class A Championships in Sioux Falls.
Also chosen for induction in the 2023 class are Griffin Lockwood-Powell (S.F. Lincoln, 2016), Chase Kortan (Bon Homme, 2017), Travis Devine (Yankton, 2004), Spencer Koelewyn (S.F. Christian, 2017), Nolan Burchill (S.F. Lincoln, 2016), JaColby Anderson (Brookings, 2004) and Jason Smith (O’Gorman, 2004). The 2017 Sioux Falls Roosevelt team will also be honored.
