BROOKINGS, S.D. – Hannah Klein set a new program record for the Jacks as she recorded five solo blocks in a three-set match on Saturday in a 3-0 win against the Bradley Braves.
Klein was the star of the show on Saturday against the Braves as the sophomore had 12 kills on 29 swings and five solo blocks, a new program record.
Sylvie Zgonc was back to her usual ways as she added another 20-kill game to her season mark, getting 20 kills on 38 swings while hitting .421. Rylee Martin added a 24-assist game to help set up the Jacks for success. Marisa Michaelis and Brooke Larsen also added six kills of their own to the Jackrabbits’ tally.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1: The Braves came out hot in the opening set, holding an early 3-0 lead before the Jacks rallied back to take an 8-5 lead of their own. The two teams traded points often during the match, leading to a 15-15 deadlock. Sylvie Zgonc took matters into her own hands after the Braves tied the game, 24-24, as the senior outside hitter delivered the decisive blow to Bradley on her eighth kill of the set, 26-24.
Set 2: Bradley built a three-point cushion early in the second set, getting out to an 8-5 lead, before pushing it to a four-point lead at 12-8. But the Jackrabbits were able to return with two three-point runs, tying the match at 17-17 and forcing a Bradley timeout. From there, Hannah Klein, Brooke Larsen, and Zgonc were able to secure kills to build the Jackrabbits’ lead out to three before Klein finished the set with a kill, 25-23.
Set 3: The early points of set three were once again back-and-forth contests. The Jackrabbits and Braves were locked up at 7-7 before the Jacks put together a 4-0 run to push the lead to 11-7. Sylvie Zgonc and Hannah Klein made sure the set was never in question as the pair traded kills during runs before Zgonc unleashed a sweet swing to earn her 20th kill and send the Jackrabbits home with the 3-0 sweep, 25-19.
