Dykhouse Stadium. For ticket information, log on to JackrabbitTickets.com.

The Dakota Wesleyan University football team’s losing streak reached six games on Saturday, but the Tigers put up a great fight in defeat.  The first half was back and forth and finally tied at 21 at halftime.  The second half the Tigers didn’t adjust as much as the Warriors and Midland University rolled to an 45-27 GPAC win in Freemont Nebraska.  The lone score in the second half was a defensive score from the Tigers as the offense could not get it into the endzone.  Dakota Wesleyan drops to 1-7 overall and 0-6 in the GPAC.  The DWU Tigers will host No. 1 Morningside College Saturday at Joe Quintal.

The DWU Tiger volleyball team took a blow to their plans of securing a top eight finish in the GPAC when the Tigers lost a tough five-set match on the road in Omaha at the College of St. Mary on Saturday.  After holding a 10-4 advantage in the fifth set, the Tigers fell to the Flames by the scores of 25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 17-25, and 17-15.  The Tigers fell to 18-8 overall and 3-8 in the GPAC and sit in the #10 seed of the conference, with only the Top eight earning a spot into the playoffs.  The Tigers return home to battle Hastings College at 7:30pm on Friday at the Christen Family Athletic Center in Mitchell for Parents Night and then Saturday the Tigers host Doane Saturday afternoon at 5:00pm for their Dig Pink Match.  The Tiger volleyball team needs two wins this weekend to have a real shot at the postseason.

The Dakota Wesleyan University Volleyball Little Tiger Youth Camp is set for Saturday.  The camp is at the Avera Sports and Wellness Complex on campus.  The camp is for grades K-through-5th and the cost is $25 (must pre-register). The camp is from 10:00am to Noon and the cost includes a T-shirt, prizes and admission to the DWU volleyball match versus Doane University at 5:00pm Saturday night at the Christen Family Athletic Center on campus.  The volleyball camp will focus on passing, setting, serving and hitting.  For details or to register, contact DWU volleyball coach Lindsay Wilber at 605-553-5282 or Lindsay.Wilber@dwu.edu or contact the DWU Athletic Office at 605-995-2112.

There is no doubt that the best team in Class 11AA are the Pierre Governors as they ran buck shot over #2 Brookings last week 54-7 and then rolled #3 ranked Mitchell Friday night 75-7.  The Govs were averaging 55 points per game heading into this week and they had 55 points by halftime.  The Governors rolled up 672 yards of total offense and scored on 10 of 12 possessions in the game.  The only time they did not score was on a missed 27-yard field goal and a turnover on downs late in the game.  Mitchell, 4-4 overall, was playing without Parker Phillips, who was out with an illness.  Mitchell, 4-4 overall, will be at Huron, 4-4 overall, Thursday to end the regular season.  Mitchell needs a win Thursday to earn a home playoff game on October 31st.

The Mitchell Kernel volleyball team split their weekend trip out west by beating RC Central in four sets on Friday night, winning by the scores of 25-21, 25-22, 16-25 and 25-20.  The Kernels lost in straight sets to RC Stevens on Saturday afternoon and stand at 4-17 overall. Tuesday the Kernels return home to host Harrisburg at the Senior High Gym.

The Dakota Wesleyan University basketball teams were both picked within the top-three of the preseason Great Plains Athletic Conference coaches’ polls yesterday.  The Tiger men were second in the preseason poll after tallying 91 points and two first-place votes. The DWU women were tabbed third with 105 points in the poll.  Morningside totaled 98 points and is the preseason favorite in the men’s poll. The Mustangs tallied nine first-place votes. Jamestown was third in the balloting with 78 points.  Morningside won the regular season championship last year in the GPAC, with Jamestown claiming the tournament title.  Four teams:  Morningside, Jamestown, Briar Cliff and Dakota Wesleyan, all qualified for the national tournament in Sioux Falls a year ago.  In the women’s poll, Concordia totaled 121 points and was tabbed No. 1 in the poll. The Bulldogs tallied 11 first-place votes, while Dordt was picked second with 107 points and the final first-place vote. Last year, Concordia won the regular season and tournament titles in the GPAC. The Bulldogs went on to win the NAIA Division II national championship.  Six GPAC teams played in the 2019 NAIA Division II National Tournament as Concordia was joined by Dakota Wesleyan, Northwestern, Dordt, Hastings and Morningside in Sioux City, Iowa a year ago.  The DWU women will open the season on October 30th at the Corn Palace against Valley City State of North Dakota.  Both Tiger teams will play at the NAIA Sanford Pentagon Classic on November 2-3 in Sioux Falls.

The DWU Tiger men and women basketball teams are getting ready to tip off their seasons soon.  The DWU Tiger women will open on October 30th at home against Valley City State of North Dakota with tip-off slated for 6:00pm.  After that the Tiger women play Dakota State and Presentation at the Pentagon in Sioux falls on November 2nd and 3rd and head to Sioux Center Iowa to play at Dordt on November 13th.
