PALACE CITY BASEBALL

Palace City Baseball Post 18 dropped both games of a doubleheader to Rapid City Post 320 Stars Saturday at Cadwell Park. Game one was a back and forth contest which Post 320 won 5-4. Trailing 5 to 3 in the bottom of the seventh, Mitchell had the bases loaded with nobody out. A strikeout followed by a groundout scored one run and put runners at second and third with two outs, but Post 320 would record a strikeout to end the game. Ian Weber took the loss for Post 18 going five and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on 10 hits, striking out three and walking two. Mitchell was held to just five hits in the game. Kaiden Allen led Post 18 with two runs batted in. Post 320 then won the second game 10-8. Trailing 4-1, Post 18 would tie the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a single by Ian Weber, and a ground out by Ethan Hegg. Mitchell broke the tie in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a two-run single by Canon Moller. Post 320 responded in the top of the fifth, scoring six runs on three hits to take the lead, 10-6. Both Ian Weber and Jaxson Hartman had two hits and two RBIs for Post 18. Jacob Ebert took the loss for Post 18. The hurler went four and two-thirds innings, surrendering 10 runs (two earned) on nine hits, striking out two and walking one. Palace City Post 18 (9-10) is on the road Tuesday to take on Harrisburg Gold in a doubleheader.

Jordon Ebert didn’t allow a single hit as PCBA JL Post 18 defeated Worthington 9-3 on Sunday afternoon to go 5-0 at a tournament in Yankton. Ebert struck out 10, allowed one walk, and the three runs were unearned due to five errors. Seven different batters had a hit for Palace City while Jack Hohn had three runs batted in. In the first game on Sunday, PCBA JL Post 18 got out to a 7-run lead in the first inning against Vermillion and then had to come from behind to win 9-8. Palace City scored a run the bottom of the sixth to tie the game and then the winning run scored on an error on a stolen base attempt for the walk-off win in the seventh. Nolan Widstrom went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs batted in for Palace City. Madden Graves earned the win in relief allowing one hit and three runs (zero earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one. On Saturday, Madden Graves and Blake Rehorst combined for a four-inning no-hitter in Palace City Baseball Junior Legion’s 9-0 win over Yankton Blacksox on Saturday.

Palace City Baseball 14u went 1-2 the Sioux Falls Slam Tournament over the weekend. Preston Maeschen collected three hits and drove in two runs as Palace City Baseball 14u defeated Bison, Minnesota 12-1 on Saturday in Sioux Falls. Maeschen also earned the win allowing five hits and one run over five innings, striking out six and walking three. Keniel Padill and Micah Bennett had two hits and two RBI’s each to the win. Mitchell dropped the second game it played on Saturday 17-3 to Bismarck. Meade Schlimgen had two hits and an RBI for Mitchell. Mitchell was playing St. Peter, MN Sunday when the game was stopped in the second inning. The Palace City Baseball 14U team opened the Sioux Falls Slam Tournament on Friday losing 9-7 to Renner Post 307.

SUNDAY AMATEUR BASEBALL SCHEDULE

Canova won both games of a doubleheader against Flandreau Blue Teal on Sunday. In game one, Garrett Gassman hit a three run home run and Jackson Remmers had three hits and drove in three runs to power Canova Gang past Flandreau Blue Teal 10-0. Luke Koepsell allowed four hits over six innings, striking out eight and walking one for the win. Canova Gang took game two 12-7. Riley  Genzlinger had two hits and three runs batted in.

Aiden Scheetz rang up 11 strikeouts in Salem’s 13-3 victory over the Baltic River Dawgs on Sunday. Scheetz allowed two hits and zero runs over five innings while walking three. Salem scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh inning to end game on the mercy rule. Kyle Tuschen went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs. Michael Zeman, Owen Alley, and Cole Cheeseman also drove in three runs each.

Many games were postponed yesterday. Dimock-Emery at Platte has been rescheduled for Monday, June 29th at 8 p.m. Other postponed games included Mt. Vernon at Winner/Colome, Winner Demons at Wessington Springs, Kimball/White Lake at Plankinton, and the Parkston Mudcats at Freeman.

Mitchell Kernel football is hosting a Fellowship of Christian Athletes youth football camp on Thursday, June 25, at Joe Quintal Field. The camp is open to students entering grades 5-8 this fall and costs $25 per athlete. Football activities will run from 9 a.m. to noon, and lunch will be provided for all campers afterward from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the MHS Commons. Campers need to wear T-shirts, shorts and football cleats for the camp, but are asked to bring tennis shoes for lunch or if activities need to be moved indoors due to weather. Registration is now open for the 2026 First Tee South Dakota youth golf program at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell. The program, open to kids ages 6 to 17, combines golf instruction with lessons focused on character development and life skills. Sessions will be held Mondays and Tuesdays throughout the summer, beginning June 29th, with class times divided by age group in the morning. The cost is $98, with financial assistance available to ensure all kids can participate. Equipment is provided, and families are encouraged to register early as space is limited.
