Magnuson and Watson Close Out Tiger Track Season at NAIA Nationals

Marion, Ind. – The Tiger track and field team was represented by two athletes at the NAIA outdoor national championships, held on May 22-23. Abby Magnuson (Gr.) and Ethan Watson (Fr.) both qualified to compete against the best in the country and closed out their seasons with strong performances.

Abby Magnuson, who is no stranger to the national stage, qualified in both shot put and discus events. She opened her championship appearance on Thursday, May 22, in the women’s shot put. Aiming for her third All-American honor in the event. Magnuson gave a strong showing with her best throw of 13.18 meters. Despite falling short of another All-American statsu, she finished 14th overall in a competitive field. Magnuson ends her DWU career as #1 in the shot put, indoor and outdoor, in Tiger history.

Magnuson returned to action the next day, Friday, May 23, to compete in the discus throw. Facing deep competition among 28 of the nation’s best, she recorded a mark of 40.72 meters which placed her 19th overall to close out her season.

Freshman Ehtan Watson made his first appearance on the national stage, qualifying for the men’s shot put. In his championship debut, Watson deliverd a respectable performance notching a 16.16m throw. That effort earned him 18th place out of 24. An impressive result for the newcomer and a strong foundation to build on in his future seasons.
