McCook Central/Montrose Advances to Class B Softball Championship Game

Championship matchups are set in all three classes of the South Dakota High School Activities Association state softball tournaments following semifinal action Friday in Sioux Falls and Aberdeen.

Class B’s championship game will feature the tournament’s top two seeds after No. 1 Castlewood defeated Hanson 12-7 and No. 2 McCook Central/Montrose rolled past Gayville-Volin 15-7 in the semifinals.

Consolation semifinal winners included Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy, which beat Avon 13-4, and Redfield, which edged Florence/Henry 7-6.

In Class AA, top-seeded Sioux Falls Jefferson earned a 4-0 shutout victory over fifth-seeded Sioux Falls Roosevelt to advance to the state championship game for the second consecutive year. The Cavaliers will face third-seeded Sioux Falls Washington, which defeated second-seeded Harrisburg 8-4 in the other semifinal.

Earlier Friday, Brandon Valley defeated Sioux Falls Lincoln 10-3 and Rapid City Stevens topped O’Gorman 9-3 in consolation semifinal games.

Class A featured a pair of semifinal upsets. Eighth-seeded Elk Point-Jefferson continued its postseason run with a 7-4 win over fourth-seeded West Central, while third-seeded Dakota Valley defeated second-seeded Tri-Valley 10-6. The winners will meet for the state championship Saturday afternoon.

In consolation action, fifth-seeded Beresford knocked off top-seeded Madison 4-1, and sixth-seeded Sioux Valley routed Lennox 15-5.

State tournament play concludes Saturday. The Class AA championship game is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Sioux Falls, while Class A and Class B title games are set for 4 p.m. in Aberdeen.
