Meyer, Mathiowetz Lead Four Jackrabbits on All-Summit League Teams

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Four members of the South Dakota State women’s basketball team were recognized in the All-Summit League awards, released Tuesday by the conference office.

Brooklyn Meyer and Madison Mathiowetz were both named to the Summit League First Team, Emilee Fox was an honorable mention for all-Summit honors and Hadley Thul was named to the Freshman Team.

Meyer averaged 22.4 points while shooting a blistering 68% from the floor in conference action, both league highs. The senior also tallied 8.6 rebounds (ranked third), 3.0 assists (sixth) and 1.6 blocks (second) per contest. Meyer scored at least 20 points in eight conference games, including three games above 30 points. She scored a career-high 44 points at Oral Roberts on February 19, the new program record for SDSU and highest scoring output by a Summit League player this season. Against the other top five teams in the Summit League, Meyer averaged 25.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.6 blocks while shooting .736 from the floor. Meyer is a three-time first-team pick and three-time all-defense honoree in her Jackrabbit career.

Mathiowetz, a senior, landed on the Summit League First Team for the first time in her career. She averaged 14.6 points and 1.4 steals per game during the Summit season while shooting .465 from the floor and .373 from the 3-point line. Mathiowetz finished the conference season ranking seventh in scoring and sixth in field goal percentage. She scored at least 10 points in 14 conference matchups, including four games with at least 20 points.

Meyer and Mathiowetz earning first-team honors marks the third consecutive season that two Jackrabbits have landed on the first team.

Fox, a sophomore, earned an honorable mention nod from the voters. She averaged 9.3 points and 2.5 assists per conference game. Fox leads the league in 3-point percentage, shooting .493 from behind the arc in league action, and ranks first in the country in overall 3-point percentage at .500. She scored a career-high 26 points with 7-of-9 3-point shooting against Kansas City on February 14.

Thul was selected to the Summit League’s All-Freshman Team. She finished the conference slate averaging 6.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game and made seven starts. Thul shot 50% from the field and 41% from the 3-point line. She posted at least 10 points in three Summit contests, including her career-high 14 points at Oral Roberts on February 19.

SDSU now turns its attention to the Summit League Tournament, which begins Wednesday in Sioux Falls. The Jackrabbits will play No. 7 Kansas City Thursday afternoon at noon.
