After South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley released a statement earlier this morning (Wednesday, July 12) on the investigation into Mitchell Post 18 Legion Baseball, the Mitchell Baseball Association Board of Directors has announced that the Post 18 varsity season will resume effective immediately.
The decision comes after an ongoing investigation by the State Division of Criminal Investigation.
Jackley expressed his hope that the investigation would not interfere with the opportunity for the hardworking team members to continue participating in the baseball program safely.
Michell Baseball Association president Jason Christensen confirmed to the Mitchell Republic in a statement that safeguards would be implemented to ensure the welfare of all players and coaches. These measures include appointing a monitor to all baseball activities and having parents or guardians handle transportation.
No players have been suspended as a result of the criminal investigation, although there may be suspensions for other team rules.
Mitchell Post 18 will resume their season with a road doubleheader in Brookings on Thursday, July 13, and end the regular season with a home doubleheader against Sioux Falls West on Monday, July 17.
KORN News Radio will have coverage at 5 pm, with a 4:45 pm pregame show on Monday of Mitchell Post 18 baseball.
