Mitchell Baseball Ends Regular Season with Two Wins vs. Rapid City Stevens

Mitchell baseball ended its regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Rapid City Stevens, winning 1-0 and 6-4 at Drake Field.

Conor Mattke’s RBI double in bottom of the fifth inning scored Tyler Christensen from first to score the only run in game one.

Carter McCormick threw five shutout innings for Mitchell, allowing two hits, two walks and two hit batters. Parker Mandel picked up a six out save, his first of the season.

In game two, Mitchell scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game and took the lead for good with two more runs in the fifth.

Only two of the 10 combined runs in game two were earned as Rapid City Stevens committed five errors while Mitchell had three.

Jacob Ebert got the win, allowing four unearned runs and four hits over five innings.

Mitchell ends the regular season with a 16-9 record and are currently the No. 9 seed in Class A.

Postseason play starts on Friday, May 16 and continues on Saturday, May 17.

Official pairings are expected to be released on Tuesday with Mitchell projected to play a two-out-of-three series at Brandon Valley. The winner of the series advances to the Class A state baseball tournament at Sioux Falls Stadium on Friday, May 23 and Saturday, May 24.
