Mitchell boys tennis takes ninth at the state tournament

Mitchell boys tennis ended its season with a ninth place finish at the Class AA state tennis tournament in Sioux Falls on Friday, highlighted by a fourth place finish for Matthew Mauszycki in #5 singles and #3 doubles.

Mauszycki was 2-2 in Flight 5 singles, reaching the third place finals before losing to the three seed Cooper Rott of Harrisburg, 10-3.

The Kernels Flight #3 doubles team of Mauszycki and Zach Fuhrer also reached the third place finals before losing to the #2 seed from O’Gorman, 10-3.

Fuhrer reached the fifth place finals at Flight 6 singles after defeating Hunter Miller of Aberdeen Central, 10-1.

Jager Juracek (#2 singles) and Drake Jerke (#4 singles) finished in the tie for seventh.

Luke Jerke placed 10th in Flight #1 singles, losing to Curtis Sneden of Watertown in the consolation finals, 10-2, while Levi Loken also took 10th in #3 singles.

Mitchell’s #2 doubles team of Drake Jerke and Loken lost to the seven seed from Watertown to finish in sixth place, while the Kernels #1 doubles duo of Luke Jerke and Juracek took home 10th place.
