The Mitchell Girls Golf team fell one spot on the final day of competition to finish second at the Class AA State Golf Meet in Brookings on Tuesday.
The Kernels started the day with a one shot lead over Aberdeen Central after shooting a season best 326 during Monday’s first round. Mitchell would shoot a 338 second round team score to place three shots behind State Champion Harrisburg for the tournament. The Tigers were nine shot back after the first round, posting a score of 326 during day two.
Mitchell’s Allison Meyerink went into the second round with a three shot lead, being the only golfer to shoot under par on Monday with a -1, 71. Meyerink would finish in a three-way tie for third after shooting a +10, 82 on Tuesday to finish the tournament at +9, 153.
Kernel Sophomore Quinn Dannenbring would finish tied for 13th after shooting 81-84 (165) for the tournament.
Reese Jansa of Harrisburg won her second straight Class AA individual title, carding an even par 72 on Tuesday to finish +4 for the tournament. Jansa has committed to playing collegiately at the University of Toledo.
