Mitchell Kernels girls basketball looks to build on the momentum of last year’s Class AA state tournament appearance with a return trip to the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.
The Kernels start the season at Huron on Friday, December 8 as part of a doubleheader. The Mitchell boys and girls will take part in nine doubleheaders on the season, including a return trip from Huron to the Corn Palace on Tuesday, January 9.
Over the holiday break, Mitchell will host a pair of Wyoming teams in the annual Hoop City Classic, as they face Thunder Basin on Friday, December 29 at 12 pm, followed by Campbell County on Saturday, December 30 at 4:30 pm.
Mitchell will have a stretch of seven consecutive home games from the middle of December through the middle of January before going on the road for five of their next six, including a trip to Sturgis on Friday, February 2 and Spearfish on Saturday, February 3.
The Kernels will wrap up its home regular season schedule against Brandon Valley on Tuesday, February 20, a rematch of last year’s SoDAK 16 which Mitchell won 53-49 to become to first ever 12 seed to advance to the state tournament.
This year’s AA SoDAK 16 game is scheduled for Friday, March 1, followed by the state tournament less than a week later at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.
