Mitchell Kernels Girls Soccer Advances to State with a Penalty Shoot-Out Win Over Aberdeen Central

Mitchell Kernels girls soccer advances to the Class AA state title match with a 3-2 penalty shoot-out win over Aberdeen Central on Tuesday night at Joe Quintal Field.

With the match tied at 2-2 after two 10 minutes overtimes, the Kernels would win the penalty shoot-out 4-2 as Junior goalkeeper Tenley Peterson made two saves.

Mitchell took a 1-0 lead just 3 minutes, 27 seconds into the match. The Kernels added their second goal of the match with 24:33 left in the first half.

The Golden Eagles cut the Mitchell lead to one, scoring with just 2:12 left in the first half.

Aberdeen tied the match at 2-2 with the final goal of regulation with 24:24 left in the second half.

Mitchell avenged their only loss of the season to Aberdeen Central on September 26, 1-0

The Kernels (16-1) will take on #2 Harrisburg (16-1) on Saturday in Brandon for the Class AA girls soccer championship at 5 pm.

Harrisburg’s only loss on the season was to Mitchell, 3-2, on August 11, the season opener for both teams.
