MITCHELL, S.D. — Mitchell Kernels volleyball secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over No. 5 Rapid City Stevens on Saturday afternoon, pushing their win streak to five matches. The Kernels won 27-25, 28-26, 18-25, 20-25, 16-14.
Mitchell, 11-4 on the season, has its longest winning streak since winning five in a row in September of 2021. Meanwhile, Stevens dropped to 21-4 on the year and 6-2 vs. Class AA teams.
Addie Siemsen, the Kernels’ senior setter, played a pivotal role in the win, tallying 53 assists across all five sets. Siemsen’s precision set up her teammates effectively, with Nia Talley and Audrey Miller each contributing 15 kills. Talley’s 31.3% kill percentage helped drive the offense, while Miller’s 30% hitting efficiency kept Stevens on their toes throughout the match.
Mitchell’s defense was equally critical, as they accumulated 110 digs and 10 blocks, with Kenna Soulek leading the team with 34 digs. Siemsen also contributed 26 digs, solidifying her all-around performance.
Mitchell will look to extend their winning streak when they return to action Tuesday night at home against Sioux Falls Jefferson at 6:30 p.m.
