Mitchell Kernels Volleyball Defeats Rapid City Central in Three-Set Sweep

MITCHELL — Mitchell Kernels volleyball extended their winning streak to four games with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 26-24) victory over Rapid City Central on Friday night. The win improves Mitchell’s record to 10-4 and keeps them in strong contention for a top eight seed as they prepare to face the No. 5-ranked Rapid City Stevens on Saturday afternoon.

The Kernels were in complete control throughout the first two sets, dominating both 25-11 and 25-10. While the first two sets were one-sided, the third set proved to be a much tighter contest. Central battled back, pushing the Kernels to extra points before ultimately falling 26-24. Despite the Cobblers’ efforts, Mitchell’s defensive strength — led by Siemsen’s nine digs and Soulek’s 16 — was enough to seal the sweep.

Mitchell’s offensive efficiency was also a key factor in the victory. The Kernels finished with a .301 hitting percentage, with Siemsen and Miller both recording 10 kills apiece. Freshman Nia Talley added another seven kills, while the team’s blocking efforts, spearheaded by Kenzie Hetland’s six blocks, kept Central’s attack in check.

The Kernels have won nine of their last 10 meetings vs. Rapid City Central.

Next up for Mitchell is a Saturday afternoon matchup against Rapid City Stevens at 12:30 p.m. Stevens, who is currently ranked No. 5 in the state, comes into the game with a 21-3 record after a convincing 3-0 win over Huron on Friday night.
