
MITCHELL, S.D. — Mitchell Kernels volleyball earned a 3-2 win over Brookings on Tuesday night in an ESD conference match at the Mitchell High School gym. Set scores were 21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 24-26, 15-7.
Mitchell improved to 6-3 on the season with the win and 4-0 at home.
Senior Audrey Miller led the Kernels with 13 kills and a .205 hitting percentage. Senior setter Addie Siemsen finished with 11 kills, a team-best .308 hitting percentage, 36 assists and seven total blocks. Eighth grader Nia Talley added 10 kills and nine digs, while senior Kambyl Wede had nine kills and five block assists.
Mitchell recorded 52 total kills and hit .184 as a team. Defensively, the Kernels compiled 89 digs, led by junior Cassidy Korzan with 19. Soulek and Siemsen each added 17.
At the net, Mitchell finished with nine total blocks, including 14 block assists. Siemsen and Wede combined for 12 of them.
The Kernels also had 14 aces, led by Talley, Korzan, and Soulek with three each.
Brookings took the opening set 25-21 before Mitchell responded with wins in the second and third. The Bobcats forced a fifth set by taking the fourth 26-24, but Mitchell controlled the final frame 15-7 to secure the win.
Mitchell travel to Sioux Falls Lincoln on Tuesday for the first of four consecutive road matches.
