Mitchell Post 18 hangs on for 5-4 win over Sheridan

Mitchell Post 18 improved to 12-7 on the season with a 5-4 win on Tuesday night at Cadwell Park vs. the Sheridan (Wyo.) Troopers.

Landon Waddell got the scoring started for Mitchell with a two RBI double in the second inning to bring in Karter Sibson and Carter Miller to make it 2-0. A Landon Soulek sacrifice bunt brought in Waddell from third to make it 3-0.

Sheridan would tie the game at three with two runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth.

Post 18 retook the lead for good on a Colin Stange sacrifice fly to right that scored Parker Mandel from third.

Mitchell added an insurance run in the sixth that ended up being the game winner when Dylan Soulek tripled to right center with two outs. Mandel then singled Soulek in on the very next pitch to put Post 18 up 5-3.

Sheridan threatened to tie the game in the seventh, getting within one run on a Lincoln Bates wild pitch. Bates picked up his first save of the season with three strikeouts in the inning, leaving runners at second and third.

Peyton Schroder picked up the win for Mitchell, going five innings and allowing three runs on seven hits.

Mandel and Soulek finished 2-for-4, while Karter Sibson was 2-for-3 and Waddell reached base all three times with the second inning double and two RBI’s.

Mitchell travels to Gillette, Wyoming, this week for the 38th Annual Hladky Memorial Tournament. Post 18 starts play on Friday with two games starting at 10:30 am CST against PCH Baseball out of Utah, followed by 1 pm start vs. Premier West, Colorado.
