Mitchell Starts Home Schedule with Win over Tea Area

Mitchell baseball started the home portion of its 2025 spring schedule with a 4-1 win on Thursday vs. Tea Area at Drake Field.

SS Jacob Ebert got the scoring started with an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning to score Jaxson Hartman to make it 1-0 Mitchell.

Hudson Borgan (2B) and Hartman (1B) put together back-to-back hits in the fourth inning to increase the Mitchell lead to 2-0.

Tea Area scored its only run of the game in the top of the fifth inning on a bases loaded sacrifice fly from pitcher Cole McKinney that scored Avery Hangman from third to cut the Mitchell lead to 2-1.

McKinney went six innings for the Titans, allowing four runs, seven hits with five strikeouts.

Mitchell answered in the bottom of the fifth when Bailor Kristensen drove in Ebert with an RBI single.

Borgan lead off the bottom of the sixth inning with a triple and would score on a Hartman sac fly to make it 4-1. Borgan finshed 2-for-3 with a pair of extra base hits and two runs. Hartman had a pair of singles with two RBI’s and a run scored.

Mason Herman got the win on the mound for Mitchell, going 5+ innings, allowing just one run on six hits with five strikeouts, including getting out of a bases loaded jam in the third without giving up a run.

RP Gavin Jones came in from right field for a six out save and was named the KORN Player of the Game. Jones came in with two runners on and no outs as Mitchell had a 4-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning. Jones struck out three of the four hitters he faced in the inning to maintain the three run lead.

Mitchell (6-4) will be at Pierre on Monday for a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
