Mitchell baseball swept Brookings on Sunday afternoon at Cadwell Park winning both ends of a doubleheader, 10-5 and 6-5, to start a busy final week of the regular season.
Mitchell took an early 3-2 lead in game one, responding after Brookings scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Five consecutive Mitchell hitters reached base with two outs in the bottom of the first to take a one run lead.
Mitchell never trailed the rest of the way, scoring at least one run in all six innings.
Parker Mandel was the KORN Player of the Game, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. All nine Mitchell hitters had a least one hit.
Mason Herman picked up the win going six innings, allowing two first inning runs on seven hits.
In game two, Mitchell would score three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead thanks to a two run double from Mandel and an RBI single from Jaxson Hartman. Mandel finished 2-for-3 with three RBI in game two.
Tyler Christensen went six innings for the win giving up three earned runs, three hits and six strikeouts with five walks.
Mitchell (12-7) enters the final week of the regular season with six games remaining and three doubleheaders. It starts on Tuesday at 5 pm when Mitchell hosts SF Washington for two games. The pregame show starts at 4:45 pm on KORN News Radio FM 101.3/AM 1490 and KORNRadio.com
