Mitchell Post 18 improved to 8-1 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of Huron, winning 5-3 and 10-5.
In game one, Blake Brosz pitched all seven inning to pick up his first win of the season. Brosz allowing two earned runs and six hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Three of the six hits allowed were in the top of the seventh inning.
After being scoreless through four innings, Huron scored in the top of the fifth on a Brady Feenstra single to left to score Mason Davis from third.
Mitchell answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead for good getting an RBI single from Colin Stange and a sacrifice fly from Esten Schlimgen.
Post 18 added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth as the first five batters of the inning all reached based, including a leadoff triple from Parker Mandel and singles from Dylan Soulek and Lincoln Bates. Soulek reached base all three times in game one, finishing 2-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch, RBI and run scored.
Huron threatened in the top of the seven as three of the first four hitters singled to score two runs before Brosz retired the final two hitters of the game.
In game two, Mitchell turned a 3-0 deficit after an inning and a half into a 5-3 lead at the end of the second. A Lincoln Bates triple got Post 18 on the board, scoring Hudson Haley from first. Mitchell would also get run scoring singles from Stange and Soulek to take the lead for good.
Stange finished game two 2-for-3 with two RBI’s and two runs scored, while DH Mason Herman was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Soulek was 4-for-4 with two RBI’s.
Mitchell added two more runs in the third, one more in the fourth and two more in the sixth.
Tyler Sanderson picked up the win, going six innings and allowing five runs, but just one earned.
Mitchell Post 18 plays at Renner on Wednesday in a single game at 5 pm, followed by a Sunday doubleheader vs. Aberdeen at 1 pm. KORN News Radio will have the pregame show on Sunday starting at 12:45 pm.
