Mitchell Sweeps Sturgis with Back-to-Back Shutouts

Mitchell baseball outscored Sturgis 22-0 in a home doubleheader at Drake Field on Friday night to improve to 9-6 on the season.

Mason Herman threw a shutout in game one, allowing only four hits and no walks with six strikeouts on 90 pitches.

Mitchell scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, added four more in the fourth and made it 7-0 with another run in the fifth.

Hudson Borgan was 2-for-4 with two RBI’s and two runs, while Jaxson Hartman also had a two hit game. Gavin Jones added a two run double in the fourth and also scored twice.

Mitchell made quick work of Sturgis in game two, winning 15-0 in three innings.

Jones allowed one hit with three strikeouts and two walks over three innings on 43 pitches.

Mitchell scored eight times in the second inning and six more in the third to invoke the 15-run rule.

Borgan was 2-of-2 with three RBI’s as Mitchell put up 10 hits while recording only seven outs.
