Mitchell Volleyball Dominates Pierre in Straight-Sets Victory at Home

MITCHELL, S.D. — Mitchell Kernels volleyball made quick work of Pierre on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the Governors in three decisive sets, 25-12, 25-14, 25-16, in a conference matchup at Mitchell High School.

The win lifts Mitchell to a 4-2 record on the season, continuing a strong early stretch for the Kernels, who have now eclipsed last season win total of three.

Senior outside hitter Audrey Miller led the offensive charge with a dominant performance, tallying 16 kills on 27 attacks, hitting at a .481 clip. She was supported by senior setter Addie Siemsen, who dished out 22 assists and contributed nine digs on defense.

Mitchell controlled the pace of play from the opening serve, outscoring Pierre by double digits in each set. The Kernels’ aggressive serving and clean execution helped them rack up 36 kills as a team with an efficient .317 hitting percentage, while holding the Governors to just 12, 14, and 16 points in the three sets.

Eighth grader Nia Talley and senior Kambyl Wede chipped in with four kills apiece, and junior Charleigh Collins added another four.

From the service line, Mitchell delivered 13 aces, with Talley accounting for three and Siemsen, Wede, and Kenna Soulek each contributing multiple points from behind the line.

On the defensive side, the Kernels racked up 38 digs, led by Soulek and Siemsen with nine each. Mitchell’s consistent back-row play prevented Pierre from gaining any offensive rhythm.

The victory came as part of the school’s annual Kernel Bowl weekend.
