Mitchell Volleyball Picks Up Wins vs. Spearfish and Douglas

SPEARFISH, S.D. — Mitchell Kernel volleyball made the long road trip to the Black Hills worthwhile Saturday, earning a pair of victories over Spearfish and Douglas in a doubleheader.

Mitchell opened the day with a 3-0 sweep of Spearfish (25-21, 25-20, 25-17), then followed with a 3-1 win over Douglas (25-17, 25-18, 23-25, 25-2) to improve to 9-4overall on the season.

Against Spearfish, Audrey Miller led the attack with seven kills, while Kambyl Wede added six and Addie Siemsen and Charleigh Collins each chipped in four. The Kernels hit .182 as a team and controlled play at the net, recording 17 block assists. Wede, Siemsen, and Kenzie Hetland each tallied multiple blocks, with Hetland and Siemsen totaling six block assists apiece.

Siemsen also orchestrated the offense with 20 assists, while Kenna Soulek and Nia Talley each served multiple aces. Soulek anchored the back row with 10 digs, and Talley added eight.

Mitchell carried that momentum into the second match of the day, taking down Douglas 3-1. Siemsen again paced the offense with a double-double of 13 kills and 30 assists, hitting an efficient .455. Miller added 11 kills, while Wede, Hetland, and Talley each contributed seven.

Soulek led the defense with 18 digs, followed by Talley with 15 and Siemsen with 14. Talley also had a big day from the service line, tallying eight aces on 97 percent serving.

As a team, Mitchell totaled 48 kills and 20 service aces in the win over Douglas, hitting .189 overall.
