PALACE CITY LEGION BASEBALL
— The No. 1 seed and tournament host Rapid City Post 22 is an automatic qualifier for the Class A state tournament. Teams will play in a best-of-3 series to determine the eight-team field for the state tournament on July 28-Aug. 1. Palace City takes No. 11 seed Rapid City Post 320 in game one on Wednesday at 7:30 pm. Game two follows on Thursday at 4 pm, with a potential game three at 6:30 pm.

— Palace City Junior Legion will take on No. 5 seed Watertown in its region series later this week. Game one of the best of three is Wednesday at 6 pm in Watertown. Game two will be Thursday at Noon, followed by a potential game three at 2:30. Post 18 enters region play as the No. 12 seed with an 8-11 record vs. Class A teams. The seven region winners qualify for the state tournament next week in Sioux Falls.

— Shota Imanaga pitched seven shutout innings, while Nico Hoerner had a bases-loaded triple and four RBIs to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 10-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Minnesota starts a four-game series at Cleveland on Monday at 5:40 pm.

— Ryan Fox captured his first major championship Sunday, winning the British Open with a birdie on the final hole at Royal Birkdale. The 39-year-old New Zealander closed with a 2-under 68, finishing at 10-under for a one-shot victory over American Cameron Young. Fox reached the 18th hole tied for the lead before hitting a 175-yard approach shot to within 12 feet and sinking the winning birdie putt. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler tied for fourth. Fox becomes just the third golfer from New Zealand to win a men’s major championship. He is also the oldest first-time major winner since Henrik Stenson won the Open at age 40 in 2016.
MLB
— Shohei Ohtani won’t make his next scheduled start on the mound because of left knee irritation and isn’t expected back in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ rotation for a while. Ohtani received a lubricant injection just before the All-Star break last week and had been expected to pitch Wednesday in Philadelphia against the Phillies. Ohtani, however, still didn’t feel 100% while playing catch this weekend, so he and the Dodgers decided not to even test the knee with a bullpen session. The four-time MVP hasn’t pitched since July 3. Now, it’s unclear when he’ll return to the mound.
NFL
— The attorney for Arizona Cardinals director of college scouting Ryan Gold, who was suspended indefinitely last week for violating the NFL’s gambling policy, called the league’s accusations “blatantly false” and said his client is appealing his suspension. The NFL on Friday said its investigation determined that Gold provided confidential, nonpublic inside information regarding 2026 draft selections by the Cardinals before the picks were announced and that Gold also participated in parlay bets on NFL and college games. The league didn’t say to whom Gold had provided the information.
NASCAR
— Joey Logano snapped a 45-race winless streak Sunday night with a victory at North Wilkesboro Speedway in the first points race at the track in 30 years. Logano led 323 of 450 laps. It was his 38th career Cup win, and his first since May 2025 at Texas. The 36-year-old Logano also extended his streak of winning at least one race to 15 consecutive seasons, the longest among active drivers. The Cup Series heads to Indianapolis next week for the Brickyard 400.
RUNNING
— Britain’s Josh Kerr has broken one of track and field’s oldest world records. Kerr ran the men’s mile in 3 minutes, 42 seconds on Saturday in London, breaking the world mile record that had stood since 1999. The 28-year-old finished more than three seconds ahead of American Yared Nuguse. Kerr, the 2023 world champion in the 1,500 meters, made the mile his top goal this season, with no Olympics or world championships on the 2026 schedule.
WNBA
— Kayla McBride scored 24 points to move into the top 20 on the WNBA career scoring list as the Minnesota Lynx beat the Portland Fire 101-93 on Saturday night for their fifth straight victory. Minnesota has the best record in the WNBA at 20-6. The Lynx will be at Seattle on Monday at 9 pm on USA Network.

— Willson Contreras hit a two-run homer, while Sonny Gray gave up one run over six innings as the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-1 for their 13th win in a row. The streak is tied for the second-best in franchise history.
— Max Kepler hit a walk-off RBI double in the 10th inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied from a seven-run deficit to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 8-7. It matches Arizona’s largest comeback victory in franchise history set back in 2022. St. Louis had not blown a seven-run lead since 2010.
— Ty France hit a grand slam and a solo home run, while Jackson Merrill also homered twice as the San Diego Padres beat the Kansas City Royals 19-2.
— Yoshi Yamamoto pitched a four-hitter for his first regular-season complete game as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees 8-2 in the opener of their day-night doubleheader.
— William Contreras hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth off Miami closer Pete Fairbanks to give the Milwaukee Brewers a 3-1 win over the Marlins.
— Austin Riley and Drake Baldwin each hit two home runs as the Atlanta Braves beat the Texas Rangers 8-5. Baldwin had a career-high five hits, while Riley had three hits and had four RBI’s.
— Sean Burke and two relievers combined on a four-hitter, while Colson Montgomery hit his 24th home run as the Chicago White Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-0.
— Seattle’s Logan Gilbert had 10 strikeouts across six innings, while Luke Raley and Cole Young homered as the Seattle Mariners beat the San Francisco Giants 6-3. The Mariners (50-50) are back to .500 and moved within a half-game of AL West-leading Texas.
— Brandon Young allowed one run over seven innings as the Baltimore Orioles extended their season-best winning streak to seven games by beating the Houston Astros 5-2.
— Paul Skenes allowed one run and struck out eight in seven innings as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Cleveland Guardians 7-1.
— Tyler Stephenson went deep twice, Hunter Greene struck out seven over six innings and the Cincinnati Reds overcame a three-homer game from the Rockies Hunter Goodman to beat Colorado 9-6.
— CJ Abrams and Dylan Crews hit back-to-back homers in the fifth inning to send the Washington Nationals to a 5-2 victory over the Athletics. Foster Griffin (11-2) allowed one run on eight hits in seven innings.
— Nolan McLean struck out 10 and allowed just two hits in six scoreless innings as the New York Mets won a series in Philadelphia for the first time in nearly four years, beating the Phillies 6-1.
— Ryan Johnson struck out five and allowed one run in five innings as the Los Angeles Angels snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers.
