— South Dakota State’s Cody Larson finished second in his heat of the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8 minutes, 39 seconds to advance to the NCAA Track & Field Championship in Eugene, Oregon.

Mitchell Christian’s Silas Holdeman won his second-straight Class B boys 1,600-meter run title in 4 minutes, 28.66 seconds.
Scotland/Menno’s Trinity Bietz (Beetz) was named Class A field MVP after winning the shot put and discus on Friday.
Ethan/Parkston’s James Deckert finished second in the Class A boys long jump at 21 feet, 3.75 inches.
Kimball/White Lake’s Autumn Baker placed second in the Class B girls 1,600-meter run at 5:20.36.
Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Reagan Rus came in second place in the Class A girls 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.61 seconds.
Corsica-Stickney’s Braylee Bordewyk’s finished second in the Class B girls 400-meters in 58.53 seconds.
Andes Central/Dakota Christian’s Sabas DeHaan placed second in the Class B boys 400-meters with a time of 50.57 seconds.
Kimball/White Lake’s Lincoln Kranig finished second in the Class B boys 200-meters with a time of 22.02 seconds

The Mitchell boys finished in a tie for 14th in the team standings with 14 points.
The Mitchell girls finished in 17th in the team standings with 9 points.
Alexier Padilla finished fourth in the 400-meter run with a time of 50.79 seconds.
Lainee Forst, Carsyn Weich, Ryan Keys and Emerson Smith finished fifth in the 4×400-meter relay (4:04.92).
Abby Hohn, Avrie London, Addie Siemsen and Forst ran the 4×200-meter relay in 1:45.35 to take seventh.
SOUTH DAKOTA
—On the final day of the NCAA West First Rounds in College Station, Texas, USD had their fourth qualifier for the NCAA Championships, and it came on a school record performance from Sara Reifenrath. Reifenrath broke her own 400-meter school record in 51.91 seconds to place 11th. Tre Young will represent the Coyote men in the pole vault, while Anna Willis and Gen Hirata represent the Coyote women’s pole vault squad

— Pascal Siakam had 31 points and Tyrese Haliburton scored 11 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, carrying the Indiana Pacers to a 125-108 win over the New York Knicks on Saturday night for a 4-2 series win and their first trip to the NBA Finals since 2000. They will play the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 on Thursday night.

— Scottie Scheffler never lost the lead on Sunday closing with a 2-under 70 for a four-shot victory to join Tiger Woods as the only repeat winners of the Memorial. Scheffler finished at 10-under 278 and made only one bogey over his final 40 holes.

— Ryan Blaney kicked off the second half of the NASCAR season by running away down the stretch for his first Cup Series victory of the year Sunday night at Nashville Superspeedway. The 2023 Cup champ had been racing well with five top-five finishes over the first half of this season. He finally got to victory lane in the No. 12 Ford Mustang for Team Penske for his 14th career victory and first since Martinsville in November. He became the ninth different winner this season and the fifth driver to win in as many races at Nashville.
WNBA
— Napheesa Collier had 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Courtney Williams added 20 points, five rebounds and five assists as the Minnesota Lynx beat the Golden State Valkyries 86-75 on Sunday night. Minnesota (7-0) is tied with New York a top the WNBA standings after losing in the championship series to the Liberty last season.

— Frances Tiafoe has reached the French Open quarterfinals for the first time. The 15th-seeded Tiafoe joined 12th-seeded Tommy Paul to put a pair of American men in the round of eight. It’s the first time the U.S. placed more than one man in the quarterfinals at the French Open since 1996, when Jim Courier and Pete Sampras did it together. Zero men from the United States had made it this far in any year since Andre Agassi in 2003.
— Carlos Alcaraz called himself for breaking the rules at the French Open and conceded a point during his four-set victory over Ben Shelton. Shelton whipped a passing shot well out of Alcaraz’s reach up at the net Sunday. So Alcaraz, flung his racket, and as his equipment flipped through the air, its strings made contact with the ball and sent it back over the net. Initially, defending champion Alcaraz was awarded the point. But he immediately went over to the chair umpire to admit that he wasn’t holding his racket when it touched the ball. Alcaraz wound up winning 7-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

— Cal Raleigh hit his major league-leading 23rd homer and Randy Arozarena singled home the winning run in the ninth inning to give the Seattle Mariners a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Twins. Twins starter Chris Paddack struck out 10 and allowed just four hits over eight innings. Minnesota plays its first game in Sacramento tonight vs. the Athletics at 9 pm.
— Ryan Yarbrough allowed just four hits over six innings before New York’s Ben Rice hit a tiebreaking two-run homer as the Yankees defeated the Dodgers 7-3 to avoid getting swept for the first time this season. The Dodgers outscored the Yankees 26-7 in winning the first two games of their World Series rematch, including an 18-2 rout Saturday.
— Michael Busch homered and drove in three runs, helping and the Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-3. Pete Crow-Armstrong had three hits, scored three times and stole two bases as Chicago improved to 37-22, moving a season-high 15 games above .500.
— Pinch-hitter Jake Bauers’ go-ahead, two-run double in the seventh inning helped Milwaukee beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-2 to complete a three-game sweep and extend their winning streak to seven
— Detroit’s Zach McKinstry hit a leadoff triple in the third inning and scored on Kris Bubic’s wild pitch to lift the Tigers over the Kansas City Royals 1-0.
— Hunter Brown allowed one hit in six innings to become the first eight-game winner in the majors as the Houston Astros shutout the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0.
— Cleveland’s José Ramírez homered during a three-run fourth inning and Gavin Williams allowed only one hit in 6 2/3 innings as the Guardians defeated the Angels 4-2.
— Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso and Juan Soto all homered for the Mets, while Clay Holmes threw a career-high seven innings as New York completed a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies with a 5-3 win. The Rockies lost their eighth straight and fell to 9-50, the worst record through 59 games of any major league team in the modern era (since 1901).
— Eugenio Suárez homered to cap Arizona’s three-run first inning in a 3-1 win over Washington. The Diamondbacks lost starting pitcher Corbin Burnes to an apparent elbow injury.
— Boston’s Trevor Story had a three-run double in the first inning and Garrett Crochet struck out 12 in seven innings of one-run ball, leading the Red Sox to a 3-1 win over Atlanta.
— Addison Barger put Toronto ahead with a three-run homer in the eighth inning as the Blue Jays defeated the Athletics 8-4 to complete a four-game sweep.
— The Rangers Josh Smith matched his career high of four RBIs with a two-run homer and two-run double as Texas beat the St. Louis Cardinals 8-1.
— Luis Matos hit a three-run home run as San Francisco beat Miami 4-2. The Giants won despite scoring four runs or fewer in their 14th straight game.
— Charlie Morton pitched into the seventh inning as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Chicago White Sox 3-2 for their first series sweep of the season.
