MITCHELL KERNELS
— Mitchell Kernels boys golf team set a new school record with a team score of 291 at the Mitchell Invitational on Friday at Lakeview Golf Course. Led by Asher Dannenbring’s 3-under-par 69, the Kernels tied Sioux Falls Lincoln for first place but finished second on a fifth-golfer tiebreaker. Dannenbring also tied for individual medalist honors but lost in a playoff. Carter McCormick shot 70 and Everett Morrison added an even-par 72. Mitchell travels to Watertown on Tuesday for the Watertown Invite at 10 am.

— Mitchell Kernels football lost 46-18 to Watertown on Friday night. Mitchell hosts Tea Area for Homecoming this Friday at 7 pm. The KORNer Booth pregame show starts at 6 pm.

— Mitchell Kernels girls tennis, 16-5 in duals on the season, will be at Vermillion on Monday.

— Mitchell volleyball, 5-3 on the season, host Brookings on Tuesday at 6:30 pm on KORN News Radio.

— Mitchell Kernels boys soccer, 2-7-1 on the season, will be at Brandon Valley on Tuesday at 5 pm.

— Mitchell Kernels girls soccer, 4-6 on the season, will be at Brandon Valley on Tuesday at 7 pm.

DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— Dakota Wesleyan football was shutout at home on Saturday, losing to Northwestern 23-0 to fall to 1-3 on the season. The Tigers had just 73 yards of total offense and held the ball for just over 18 minutes of game time. DWU will be on the road next Saturday at Briar Cliff at 1 pm.

— Dakota Wesleyan volleyball picked up a 3-1 (25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22) win on Saturday night vs. Briar Cliff. Evy Knoblock had a match-high 16 kills, while Kayleigh Kybertson had 48 assists. Lizzie Tyler added 27 digs. The Tigers will be at Morningside on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.

— Dakota Wesleyan men’s soccer defeated Mt. Marty on Saturday 13-0, just one goal shy of matching the school record of goals in a game set back in 2005. Evan Bolster and Korbin Rieder had four goals apiece to set a new individual school record for goals in a match. The Tigers host Dordt on Wednesday at 5 pm.

— Dakota Wesleyan women’s soccer lost to Mt. Marty on Saturday 1-0 to fall to 1-2-3 on the season. The Tigers host Dordt on Wednesday at the Pepsi Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.

— Dakota Wesleyan women’s golf will be at the Mt. Marty Invite starting on Monday.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State women’s soccer ran its unbeaten streak to eight straight matches with a 2-0 win on Sunday vs. Wyoming. The Jackrabbits, 6-1-3 on the season, start Summit League play on Thursday vs. St. Thomas at 7 pm.

— South Dakota State volleyball split two matches vs. Boise State over the weekend defeating the Broncos on Friday 3-0 before losing on Saturday 3-2. Sylvie Zgonc led SDSU with 33 kills over the two matches, while setter Rylee Martin had 77 assists and Sydni Schetnan had 16 blocks. The Jackrabbits, 6-3 on the season, open up Summit League play vs. Omaha on Thursday at 7 pm.

— No. 2 ranked South Dakota State football host Mercyhurst on Saturday at 6 pm with the Jackrabbit pregame show starting at 4 pm on KORN News Radio.

SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD football defeated Drake on Saturday 42-21 to improve to 2-2 on the season. RB L.J. Phillips Jr. had19 carries for 143 yards and a career-best four touchdowns. He became the first Coyote to rush for four or more scores in a game since 2009. USD will go on the road next week to face North Dakota State to open up Missouri Valley Conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm on Saturday.

— USD volleyball won two out for three matches as they hosted the Coyote Invitational last week. USD swept Drake on Saturday 3-0, lost to Wichita State on Friday 3-1 and defeated Villanova on Thursday 3-1. The Coyotes, 8-4 on the season, start Summit League play on Thursday at North Dakota at 7 pm.

— USD women’s soccer played to a 1-1 tie vs. Wyoming on Sunday to move to 4-2-4 on the season. The Coyotes open Summit League play on Sunday vs. St. Thomas at 1 pm.

MINNESOTA TWINS
— Brooks Lee hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the sixth, while pinch-hitter Royce Lewis had a three-run shot in the seventh as the Minnesota Twins ended the Cleveland Guardians’ 10-game winning streak with a 6-2 victory. The Guardians lost for only the fourth time in 20 games and missed a chance to pull even with Detroit in the AL Central after the Braves finished off a sweep of the Tigers with a 6-2 victory. Cleveland will host Detroit for three games beginning Tuesday.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL
— Miami jumped LSU and Penn State into the No. 2 spot behind Ohio State in The Associated Press top 25 college football poll on Sunday while Oklahoma climbed into top 10 for the first time in two years. Indiana and Texas Tech also made big moves after lopsided wins over Top 25 opponents. Miami has beaten two ranked opponents and defeated Florida by 19 points at home on Saturday. Penn State, which had been No. 2 since the preseason, was idle and slipped to No. 3. LSU fell one spot to No. 4 after an easy win over Southeastern Louisiana. No. 5 Georgia and No. 6 Oregon held their positions and were followed by No. 7 Oklahoma. Florida State, Texas A&M and Texas round out the top 10.

MLB
— The Los Angeles Dodgers have drawn 4 million fans this season for the first time in franchise history. L.A. is the first MLB team to draw 4 million fans since the Mets and Yankees did it in 2008. The 2025 Dodgers are also only the 10th team in major league history to do it with an average of 49,000 per game this season.

MLB
— Ha-Seong Kim homered and drove in two runs as the Atlanta Braves won their eighth straight game with a 6-2 win over the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers went 0-6 on their last homestand of the season. They have lost nine of their last 10 as their lead in the American League Central has dropped to one game over Cleveland.

— The surging Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago Cubs 1-0 and moved into a tie with the New York Mets for the final wild card spot in the National League. The Reds have won a season-high five straight games and six of seven.

— Jacob Young made a pair of sensational catches in center field to prevent extra-base hits as the Washington Nationals hung on and handed the New York Mets a costly 3-2 loss. The Mets, who have lost 11 of 15 and are 35-52 since mid-June, dropped into a tie with the streaking Reds for the final National League wild card. Cincinnati holds the tiebreaker over New York.

— Iván Herrera hit a two-run homer and José Fermín drove in three runs as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-1. The Brewers still clinched the NL Central title, but they had to wait until the Cubs’ 1-0 loss at Cincinnati ended less than a half-hour later.

— Pinch-hitter Patrick Bailey had a tying RBI double during San Francisco’s three-run rally in the eighth as the Giants avoid a four-game series sweep with a 3-1 victory over the Dodgers.

— Corbin Carroll homered and had four RBIs as the Arizona Diamondbacks moved within a game of the final National League wild-card spot with a 9-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillie. Carroll became the first Arizona player with 30 homers and 30 stolen bases in a season.

— Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Andres Gimenez drove in two runs apiece as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Kansas City Royals 8-5 and clinched a playoff berth. Toronto is the first team in the American League to secure a spot in the playoffs and improved its AL-best record to 90-66.

— Ben Rice’s grand slam in the 10th inning lifted the New York Yankees to a 7-1 extra innings win over the Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees remained two games behind first-place Toronto with the Blue Jays holding the head-to-head tiebreaker.

— Fernando Tatis Jr. homered as the San Diego Padres moved closer to a postseason berth with a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. The Padres can clinch a second straight playoff appearance as early as Monday when they open a three-game home series against Milwaukee.

— Brandon Lowe hit his 30th home run of the season as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Boston Red Sox 7-3 to avoid a series sweep. The Rays snapped an eight-game losing streak against Boston and finished the season 81-80 at home at Steinbrenner Field.

— Kyle Freeland pitched six innings, while Blaine Crim homered and drove in two runs, as the Colorado Rockies beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-1 in their final home game of the season. The Rockies improved to 43-113 with six games remaining, ensuring they won’t tie the 1962 Mets for the most losses in one season by a National League team.

— Otto Lopez got three hits, drove in a run and scored another as the Miami Marlins won their sixth game in a row, 4-2 over the Texas Rangers. Texas has lost seven in a row.

— Jared Triolo and Joey Bart both had four hits including a home run as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Athletics 11-0.
