No. 14 DWU Women Dominates College of Saint Mary

MITCHELL, S.D. — No. 14 Dakota Wesleyan Women’s Basketball hosted the College of Saint Mary Flames in a GPAC conference contest.

The Tigers took control of the game early, thanks to an efficient scoring output across the board. DWU posted 20-plus points in each period of play, jumping out to a 25-15 lead to begin the contest, and the Tigers would not look back for the rest of the game. Emma Yost led the Tigers on the scoring front, posting 16 points alongside seven rebounds and two assists for her effort. She was one of six Tigers to post double-digits, with the beginning stretch of the game being dominated by Rylee Rosenquist. Rosenquist posted 14 total points while being the team’s second-highest rebounder, grabbing eight total boards, while also contributing three assists and a steal to the total. She was only bested on the glass by Shalayne Nagel, who led the Tigers with nine total boards, alongside an 11-point scoring performance that also saw her contribute three assists, a steal, and a team-leading two blocks at the basket.

Off the bench, Maleighya Estes was able to match Nagel’s 11 points while snagging three boards in 17 minutes on the floor, also operating at a 3-6 (50%) clip from the field, while Avery Orth was able to match Yost’s 16 team-leading points while shooting 6-11 (54.5%). The combined efforts of the offense, along with an incredibly stout defensive performance that only allowed three points in the second period, aided the Tigers to a 54-18 lead at the half.

Out of the break, the Tigers continued their offensive pace, ending the contest shooting 37-81 (45.7%) from the field while limiting CSM to just a 17-52 (32.7%) clip on the other end of the floor. DWU continued to see contributions throughout the lineup, with Avery Broughton making her presence felt by posting 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block.

Jaida Young rounded out the starting lineup with a team-leading five assists alongside three boards and two steals. The added efforts helped the Tigers keep their momentum, posting 44 total second-half points to cruise to a 96-41 victory. DWU dominated the boards, posting 59 rebounds to Saint Mary’s 18, while posting 44 total points in the paint and 40 scored from the bench.

DWU Women’s Basketball will travel to compete in the Hoops in Hawai’i Classic, Where they will face Providence (Mont.) and Campbellsville (Kent.) on Thursday, December 18th, and Friday, December 19th.
