Two second half touchdowns were just enough to give the Parkston Trojans an undefeated championship season with a 12-7 win over Howard on Thursday night in the 9AA title game.
Parkston RB Luke Bormann was named Joe Robbie MVP with 21 carries, 167 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
With the Trojans (12-0) trailing 7-6 late in the third quarter, Bormann would take the direct snap 74 yards for a touchdown to give Parkston a 12-7 lead with 1:01 remaining in the quarter.
Howard (10-2) led at halftime 7-0 when Senior QB Taiden Hoyer scored from one yard out with 2:13 left in the second quarter. Hoyer led the Tigers with 47 rushing yards on 14 carries.
Parkston got on the board late in the third quarter on a 22 yard Bormann run with 2:27 left in the third. A failed two point conversion kept Howard in the lead 7-6.
The Parkston defense held Howard to 125 total yards and 95 yards rushing.
Offensively, the Trojans finished with 299 total yards and 259 rushing yards.
It’s the second state football title for Parkston and the first since winning in 11B in 2014.
