Pat Larson has been hired as the next Head Football Coach for the Mitchell School District. Coach Larson is a Mitchell High School and Dakota State University graduate. He has been on the Mitchell Football staff for the past 19 years, coaching at every level within the program, most recently as a Varsity Assistant and Junior Varsity Head Coach. He was named the 2018-2019 Mitchell High School Assistant Coach of the Year and the 2020 11AA Assistant Football Coach of the Year. Coach Larson has also coached freshman basketball for the past 6 seasons and served 1 year as a throws coach for the Track & Field team.

Larson replaces Kent Van Overschelde who resigned in February after coaching in the program for 20 years, the last 16 years as Head Coach, leading the Mitchell Kernels to the first state football championship in school history in 2016.
