South Dakota State wraps up the regular season against South Dakota Saturday afternoon at First Bank & Trust Arena. This match up marks the second Interstate Series of the meeting for these teams.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State celebrates its three seniors with Senior Day Saturday evening. Maddie Mathiowetz, Ellie Colbeck and Brooklyn Meyer are 109-22 overall in their four-year careers and 63-2 in the Summit League regular season.
- With one game remaining in the regular season, Saturday’s match up will determine postseason seeding. The winner will be the No. 2 seed in the Summit League Tournament and benefit from a rest day, should they advance. The losing team will be the No. 3 seed and have to win three games in three days for a Summit League title.
- The Jacks have reached 20 wins for the 15th consecutive season. SDSU is one of only a handful of programs with an active streak that long (Baylor, UConn, Louisville, South Carolina).
- SDSU seniors Brooklyn Meyer and Maddie Mathiowetz have played some of the most impressive basketball of their careers during the Jacks’ six-game win streak. Both are averaging more than 20 points per game in February.
- Brooklyn Meyer scores 21.7 points per game (11th in NCAA) and is .648 from the floor this year (3rd in NCAA). She is one of three players in the country averaging 20+ points and shooting better than 60% this year (Audi Crooks at Iowa State & Jaliya Davis at Kansas).
- Maddie Mathiowetz averages 13.8 PPG overall and 15.4 PPG in conference contests. She has scored 20+ points in three straight games and at least 15 in nine of the last 12.
- Emilee Fox is the No. 2 3-point shooter in the country at .495 on the year, just a hair behind Elle Evans of Kansas (.496). The sophomore scores 9.1 PPG in conference action.
- In the month of February, SDSU’s six-game win streak, the Jackrabbits have shot .551 from the floor and held its opponents to just .365.
- In conference games, SDSU is the top defensive team in the league, allowing only 55.7 points per game and a .364 field goal percentage by its opponents.
