Mitchell, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball team combined efficient shooting with dominance on the glass to secure a gritty 79-71 victory over Doane in GPAC Quarterfinals Wednesday night.
The Tigers (24-5, 18-4 GPAC) set the tone early, shooting an impressive 51.9% from the field and a flawless 100% from the free-throw line. They maintained their poise in the final stretch, outworking Doane on the boards to close out the hard-fought win.
Dakota Wesleyan came out strong, jumping to a 17-10 lead after the first quarter. Taliyah Hayes and Rylee Rosenquist sparked the early surge, combining for 11 of the team’s first-quarter points. However, Doane found its rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring the Tigers 23-16, leading to a tied game at halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Tigers had a trio of key scorers. Emma Yost caught fire, adding 10 points, while Hayes contributed nine, and Rosenquist added eight—reaching a career milestone with her 1,000th point at Dakota Wesleyan. Their efforts helped the Tigers edge ahead 62-58 entering the final quarter.
In the fourth, it was all Dakota Wesleyan. Rosenquist and Hayes combined for 12 of the team’s 17 points, helping outscore Doane and secure the quarterfinal victory, 79-71.
The Tigers controlled the boards, outrebounding Doane 26-22 while maintaining a perfect 100% from the free-throw line.

Taliyah Hayes (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D., Special Education) led the Tigers with 22 points, three rebounds, and three assists. She showcased her shooting prowess by sinking five three-pointers while also contributing a steal in a well-rounded performance.
