The South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA) board of directors has outlined several new goals for the upcoming school year while carrying over some from the previous year.
One of the new objectives is to establish a committee to study the eligibility of transferring athletes to address concerns about the formation of “super teams.”
Additionally, another committee will focus on recruiting more athletic coaches in collaboration with South Dakota universities and the state Department of Education.
The association will also continue efforts to recruit more officials and conduct an economic impact study to assess the potential benefits of state events.
Emphasizing sportsmanship remains a key goal, aiming to improve behavior at events. Furthermore, the election results revealed two high school principals who will serve on the SDHSAA board of directors, representing Division III schools and large schools respectively.
The association also intends to address calendar scheduling and school classification issues to ensure fair and safe competitions.
