South Dakota State and Omaha compete in a highly anticipated Summit League softball series in Brookings this upcoming weekend. The Jackrabbits and Mavericks meet at Jerald T. Moriarty Field for a single game at 5 p.m. on Friday, followed by a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The series features two teams that remain in contention for the 2025 Summit League regular season title along with contesting for the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament which will be held at the current series site. The Mavericks enter the series on a 12-game winning streak and are 33-9 overall. Omaha, the two-time reigning Summit League tournament champion, plays its final league series of the regular season as the Mavs sit at 12-3 in conference action.

SDSU hosts its final home series of the regular season, with one series on the road still to play, when it takes on Omaha this weekend. The Jackrabbits swept North Dakota State on their home field last week before falling by 5-3 and 7-6 scores in a doubleheader at Iowa State on Monday. South Dakota State is 24-22 overall and tied for second in The Summit League standings with a 9-3 record.

SDSU and Omaha have had quite the recent history. The two foes have met in each of the previous four Summit League tournament championship games. The Jackrabbits earned the 2021 and 2022 Summit League titles, while Omaha has won the last two held in Brookings. The Mavericks have won five of the last seven meetings, though one of SDSU’s victories in that span clinched the 2024 Summit League regular season championship for the Jacks in Omaha a season ago.

Abby Gentry was one of SDSU’s standouts in the Jacks’ recent series sweep of NDSU. Against the Bison, Gentry went 7-for-9 at the plate and produced nine RBIs. She claimed Kwik Star Summit League Peak Performer of the Week honors, the first of her career, for her performance. Across 45 games played, Gentry is the Summit League leader in batting average (.423), on-base percentage (.509), RBIs (49) and doubles (15).

Multiple individuals were solid at the plate for SDSU in its doubleheader defeat at Iowa State. Mia Jarecki went a combined 5 of 8 (.625) with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs. Fellow senior Brooke Dumont went 3-for-4 in game two of the clash with four RBIs. The first game saw Akayla Barnard hit a home run and double to drive in two RBIs.

Five Jackrabbits will be recognized for Senior Day during SDSU’s final regular season home series. They include Alli BoyleMadi ConklinBrooke DumontMia Jarecki and Caitlyn Wells.

Dumont and Jarecki specifically have made their impact on the Jackrabbits’ record book. Jarecki has 11 marks that rank among the top 11 in individual categories, while Dumont has top 13 marks in eight categories. Jarecki is at 148 career runs scored which is three runs away from breaking the school record of 150 set last year by Lindsey Culver. She’s also currently  second in on-base percentage (.434). Jarecki also has 99 RBIs in her career heading into the weekend while Dumont has 96 career RBIs.
