SIOUX FALLS — South Dakota State shortstop Carter Sintek was honored Monday as the Kwik Star Summit League Baseball Peak Performer of the Week after putting up big numbers in the Jackrabbits’ series win over Northern Colorado.
A sophomore from Bennington, Nebraska, Sintek collected three hits in each of the three games, posting a .643 batting average by going 9-for-14 with three runs batted in and six runs scored. He also turned in a 1.071 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage as the Jackrabbits took two of three games.
After opening the series with three hits and two runs scored, Sintek was 3-for-4 with a two-run double and two runs scored in a May 3 victory. He closed the series on May 4 by going 3-for-5, including a triple and home run as he finished a double away from completing the cycle.
In addition to his hitting prowess, Sintek made several run-saving plays in the field and did not commit an error in 14 defensive chances.
For the season, Sintek has recorded a team-best 19-multi hit games and also leads the squad in batting average (.362), hits (63), runs scored (38) and triples (3).
Sintek is the second Jackrabbit in as many weeks to earn the weekly award, joining freshman third baseman Nolan Grawe who was honored on April 28.
The Jackrabbits are scheduled to play a three-game weekend series at Omaha. Friday’s series opener is slated for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
