Sioux Falls Set to Host Major Hockey and Sports Events as City’s Reputation Grows

Sioux Falls is rapidly becoming a hockey hotspot, with the city set to host NCAA Division I Hockey Regionals in 2026 and 2028.

Following successful events in 2018 and 2024, the Sioux Falls Sports Authority and Augustana University aim to solidify Sioux Falls as a go-to destination for hockey tournaments.

Executive Director Thomas Lee and Augustana head coach Garret Raboin emphasized the city’s strong fan base, impressive venues, and accessible location as key factors in its rising prominence.

Although the city faces challenges in attracting other NCAA events, particularly basketball, due to limited hotel capacity, Sioux Falls continues to bid for major championships.

Upcoming events include the Division II Volleyball Championship, Division II Wrestling Championship, and the U.S. Olympic Curling Trials.
