In a highly publicized case, a judge sentenced six former Mitchell Legion baseball players involved in a sexual assault investigation in Rapid City on Thursday, September 12.
Presiding Circuit Judge Robert Gusinsky announced that none of the players would serve jail time, honoring the wishes of the victim, who requested leniency. Instead, the defendants must complete community service and pay $1,300 in fines.
The players had originally faced rape charges but pleaded guilty to lesser charges of accessory to a felony.
The case involved the assault of a fellow player, with video evidence showing the victim being forcibly restrained while the suspects took turns digitally penetrating him.
