TULSA, Okla. – South Dakota State basketball started hot and never looked back in a 103-77 win over Oral Roberts Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Center. The Jackrabbits’ victory hands the Golden Eagles their first home loss of the season.
SDSU improves to 18-5 on the season and remain unbeaten in Summit League action at 10-0. ORU moves to 16-8 overall and 7-4 in conference games.
The Jackrabbits missed just two shots in the opening 10 minutes, going 13-for-15 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the 3-point line to lead 34-23. The squad cooled off to shoot 36 percent in the second quarter, then were above 60 percent again in both the third and fourth periods.
Sophomores Madison Mathiowetz and Ellie Colbeck each posted career highs behind a combined 11 3-pointers. Mathiowetz knocked down six triples and finished with 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Colbeck hit five treys and had 19 points on a 6-for-9 outing. The duo also tallied three rebounds and one steal apiece.

Four 3-pointers in the first five minutes – two from Mathiowetz – quickly pushed the Jackrabbit lead to 10, 20-10. The Eagles hit a triple out of the media timeout to cut their deficit to seven but that was as close as the home team would come the rest of the way. Mathiowetz hit all three of her 3-point attempts in the opening period to lead the Jacks with nine, followed by Paige Meyer with seven points.
The Jackrabbits went ahead by as many as 15 in the second and led by 12 at halftime. Following a 5-0 ORU stretch that brought them back within nine, the Jacks put together a 12-3 run to force an Eagle timeout at 64-46. SDSU continued to stretch the lead, going up by 20 on a Paige Meyer and-one bucket and won by its largest margin of the game, 26 points.
For the game, SDSU shot 62 percent for the floor and 54 percent from deep. The Jackrabbits had a massive advantage on the glass, 43-24, but matched the Eagles with 11 offensive rebounds. SDSU scored 18 second-chance points, compared to 11 by ORU.
