
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Despite a slow opening quarter, the South Dakota State women’s basketball team topped Murray State 91-60 Tuesday night at First Bank & Trust Arena in the Jackrabbits’ final home game until December 3. SDSU improves to 3-0 while Murray State drops to 1-1.
The Jackrabbits scored just 10 points in the opening period and trailed 15-10 at that point, but outscored the Racers 81-45 the rest of the way and finished the game shooting 58 percent from the floor. After a 5-of-17 shooting mark in the first quarter, SDSU was 33-of-49 (.673) over the final 30 minutes. An 18-0 run that included five points from Ellie Colbeck during the second quarter helped the Jackrabbits pull away.
On the defensive end, SDSU held Murray State to just 29 percent shooting and notched nine blocks as a team. The Racers, one of the best free throw shooting teams in the country over the past five seasons, went 13-of-15 from the charity stripe.
Five Jackrabbits finished in double figures, paced by another big night from Brooklyn Meyer. The senior put up 24 points on 11-of-14 shooting, including a perfect 6-of-6 effort in the second half. Meyer also tallied seven rebounds, five blocks and four assists, all team highs.
Colbeck finished with 12 points and three boards, followed by Mahli Abdouch with 11 points and a pair of assists. Freshman Hadley Thul showed out with 10 points, going 4-of-6 from the floor, to go with four assists and four rebounds. She grabbed two offensive rebounds and totaled four second chance points for the Jacks. Madison Mathiowetz also contributed 10 points and had five rebounds and two steals.
SDSU recorded a season-best 19 assists on the night. In addition to Meyer and Thul, Emilee Fox dished four assists to go with her six points.
Maggie Hartwig was a big contributor on the defensive end, notching five rebounds and three blocks.
Murray State was led by Haven Ford, who scored 17 points. Sharnecce Currie-Jelks put up 14 points and eight rebounds.

- Ellie Colbeck’s 12 points is her highest scoring output since scoring 16 against North Dakota in February of 2024.
- Brooklyn Meyer surpassed 1,400 career points and 600 career rebounds in the win.
