MITCHELL KERNELS
— Mitchell softball, 1-2 on the season, will be at Aberdeen Central on Tuesday.
— Mitchell baseball, 4-2 on the season, will play in Sioux Falls this weekend as part of the Border Battle Classic when they face Grand Forks on Friday at 5:45 pm in the first of three games this weekend.
— Mitchell Kernels track and field will compete in Huron on Friday at 2 pm.
DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— Dakota Wesleyan men’s golf finished first as a team on Tuesday at the DWU Spring Invite at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell. Freshman Dakota Munger won the individual title with a 69 on Monday and a 71 on Tuesday for a two-round total of 140. Peyton Bettcher was one shot behind to finish in second place after shooting a 69 on Tuesday. DWU men’s golf wraps up the season at the GPAC Championships in Beatrice, Nebraska, Monday April 21 – Tuesday April 22.
— Dakota Wesleyan women’s golf took home first at the two-day DWU Spring Invite on Tuesday at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell. Freshman Allison Meyerink placed second individually, finishing with a two-round total of 161. Teammates Ashton Austreim and Sara Sudenga were two strokes behind Meyerink to finish tied for seventh. DWU women’s golf will compete at the Doane Invite in Lincoln, Nebraska, starting on Monday.
— Dakota Wesleyan softball, 28-11 on the season and 9-5 in the GPAC, will be at Northwestern on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
— Dakota Wesleyan baseball hosts Northwestern on Saturday for a 2 pm doubleheader at Drake Field in Mitchell. The Tigers are 11-23 on the season and 10-6 in the GPAC.
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State baseball defeated Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday 16-4 in seven innings. The Jacks scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, followed by five runs in the third and four runs in the fourth. DWU scored all four of its runs in the top of the fifth inning. SDSU returns to Summit League play this weekend when they host Omaha for the first of three games. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 pm with free admission and a dedication for the new turf at Erv Huether Field.
— South Dakota State softball hosts St. Thomas for three games this weekend in Brookings starting with a Noon doubleheader on Saturday. SDSU is 20-18 overall on the season and 5-1 in the Summit League.
SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD softball split a doubleheader at Drake on Wednesday, winning game one 3-0 and losing game two 3-2. The Coyotes host Morningside for two games in Vermillion on Sunday at 1 pm.
MINNESOTA TWINS
— Joe Ryan allowed up just two hits over seven scoreless innings in the Minnesota Twins’ 4-0 win over the Royals. Ryan is now 7-0 in nine career starts against the Royals with a 1.30 ERA in 55 innings. The Twins got a run in the fourth on Edouard Julien’s RBI single to right. The Twins got runs in the eighth and ninth, as Matt Wallner and Ty France each hit their first home run of the season. Minnesota goes for the split of the four-game series at Kansas City this afternoon at 1:10 pm.
SOUTH DAKOTA SPORTS HALL OF FAME
— The South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame will induct 23 new members on Sunday, September 14 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. The class includes NFL kicker Adam Vinatieri, former South Dakota State head football coach John Stiegelmeier, along with long time high school coaches Bill Marquardt, Kim Nelson and Jim Uttecht.

— Police were called to the home of Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill and his wife for a domestic dispute Monday, although no charges were filed. According to police reports, officers responded to a call from Hill’s mother-in-law, who told them Hill was “very aggressive and impulsive” and that she was “afraid for her daughter.” According to Hill’s mother-in-law, Hill and his wife got into an argument and he threw her laptop to the floor before grabbing their 4-month-old daughter and heading to the balcony of their 35th-floor apartment. She said Monday’s argument began when she told Hill he was not involved enough in their daughter’s life. According to TMZ, Hill was served divorce papers Tuesday.
NBA
— Luka Doncic matched a season high with 45 points in his first game in Dallas since being traded to Los Angeles, helping the Lakers clinch a playoff spot with a 112-97 victory over the Mavericks.
— Nikola Jokic had his 32nd triple-double of the season with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists as Denver beat the Sacramento Kings 124-116 in the Nuggets’ first game since head coach Michael Malone was fired. Christian Braun scored 25 points and Aaron Gordon and Michael Porter Jr. each had 21 points to help Denver end a four-game losing streak. With two regular-season games remaining, the Nuggets (48-32) are tied with the Clippers for the No. 4 playoff seed in the Western Conference.
— James Harden had 35 points and 10 assists as the Clippers beat the Houston Rockets 134-117 for their sixth straight win. The Rockets had already locked up the No. 2 seed in the West and will be making their first playoff appearance since 2020.
— Jalen Williams scored 33 points and Chet Holmgren added 22 as the Oklahoma City Thunder beat Phoenix 125-112 eliminating the Suns from the playoffs. Phoenix will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2020. The Thunder have already wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference playoffs.
— Harrison Barnes made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the San Antonio Spurs a 114-111 win over the Golden State Warriors.
— Franz Wagner scored 23 points as the Orlando Magic beat the Boston Celtics 96-76 to clinch seventh place in the Eastern Conference and the top spot in the play-in tournament. Baylor Scheierman and Payton Pritchard scored 15 points each to lead the Celtics, who did not use their top six players and made just 7 of 40 3-point shots.
— Josh Giddey had his seventh triple-double of the season with 28 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists as the Chicago Bulls beat the Miami Heat 119-111. Chicago has a one game lead over Miami for the nine seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs with two games remaining.
— Toronto’s Jonathan Mogbo had 17 points, a career-high 11 assists and 10 rebounds for the first triple-double by a rookie in the NBA this season, helping the Raptors beat the Charlotte Hornets 126-96.
— Jeff Dowtin Jr. scored a career-high 30 points as the Philadelphia 76ers snapped a 12-game losing streak with a 122-103 win over the Washington Wizards.
— Kyle Filipowski scored 30 points including a dunk that sent the game into overtime and grabbed 18 rebounds as the Utah Jazz snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 133-126 win over Portland.

— Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martinez said on social media that several of his family members were inside the nightclub that collapsed in the Dominican Republic early Tuesday. At least 124 people have been killed, with hundreds more injured from the collapse at a nightclub that occurred around 1 a.m. Tuesday. Former World Series champion Octavio Dotel and former MLB player Tony Blanco were among the dead. Dotel reportedly was alive when rescue crews located him and at least seven others, but authorities said Tuesday night that Dotel was declared dead upon arrival at a local hospital after his condition worsened.
— Teoscar Hernández homered and drove in three, including the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as the Dodgers defeated the Washington Nationals 6-5 to avoid a three-game sweep.
— Bo Bichette’s sacrifice fly in the 11th inning scored Ernie Clement as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Boston Red Sox 2-1. Toronto’s Kevin Gausman worked eight innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits with 10 strikeouts.
— Trea Turner hit a tiebreaking homer off Atlanta closer Raisel Iglesias in the ninth inning as the Philadelphia Phillies held on to beat the Braves 4-3.
— Jackson Chourio homered and doubled to drive in five runs as the Milwaukee Brewers cruised to a 17-2 win over the Colorado Rockies.
— Carlos Santana homered as the Cleveland Guardians held off the Chicago White Sox 3-2 in a game that ended with Mike Tauchman of the White Sox appearing to injure himself while rounding third base that would have tied the game.
— Seattle’s Randy Arozarena hit a grand slam in the eighth and drew the game-winning walk in the ninth as the Mariners rallied for seven runs over the final two innings to beat the Houston Astros 7-6. Hunter Brown received a no decision for Houston after allowing two hits in six shutout innings.
— The Giants Mike Yastrzemski hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning as San Francisco rallied from a five-run deficit for an 8-6 win over the Cincinnati Reds.
— Texas shortstop Corey Seager homered twice as the Rangers avoided a sweep in Chicago, beating the Cubs 6-2.
— The Yankees Max Fried threw seven scoreless innings and Ben Rice hit a two-run homer in the seventh to help New York hold off the Detroit Tigers 4-3.
— Joey Bart singled in the winning run with the bases loaded in the 13th inning to give the Pittsburgh Pirates a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals, despite six hitless innings from Erick Fedde. The Cardinals pulled Fedde after throwing 88 pitches.
— The Padres Randy Vásquez gave up one hit over five innings and Xander Bogaerts had three hits and scored both of San Diego’s runs in a 2-1 win over the Athletics. The Padres have the best record in baseball at 10-3.
— Arizona’s Corbin Carroll homered for the second straight game, while Pavin Smith added a two-run shot as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Baltimore Orioles 9-0. Brandon Pfaadt threw six scoreless innings, giving up just four hits.
— Max Meyer carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning as the Miami Marlins salvaged the finale of a three-game series by beating the New York Mets 5-0.
— José Caballero hit his first career grand slam as the Tampa Bay Rays held on for a 5-4 win over the L.A. Angels to snap a five-game losing streak.
