PALACE CITY LEGION BASEBALL
— Palace City Post 18 lost game one of their best of three series 13-4 at Rapid City Post 320 on Wednesday night. Rapid City took control with a seven-run second inning. Palace City started the scoring the top of the first inning as Canon Moller’s single drove in Carter McCormick. Palace City added three runs in the top of the third inning before Rapid City responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 10-4 lead. Dawson Adams and Kaiden Allen each had a pair of hits for Post 18, while Jaxson Hartman and Jacob Ebert each had a double. Game two is 4 pm CST on Thursday, with a potential game three to follow.

— Palace City Post 18 Junior Legion rallied to tie the game in the seventh inning, but No.4 seed Watertown answered with a walk-off RBI single from Caleb Kannas for a 5-4 win Wednesday night in Game 1 of their Class A best-of-three playoff series. Palace City erased a late deficit on RBI hits from Owen Borgan and Gavin Mendenhall before Watertown won in the bottom of the seventh. Post 18 must win Game 2 Thursday at noon, and a deciding Game 3 if necessary, to advance to the state tournament.

MINNESOTA TWINS
— Brooks Lee hit a three-run homer, while Trevor Larnach had a solo shot and three RBIs as the Minnesota Twins snapped a four-game losing streak with a 10-6 win over Cleveland. Lee connected for his 15th homer in the fourth inning to give Minnesota a 7-3 lead. The Twins look for a split of their four-game series at Cleveland on Thursday at 12:10 pm.
WNBA
— Napheesa Collier had 24 points and 10 rebounds in her season debut as the Minnesota Lynx headed into the WNBA All-Star break with the best record in the league after an 86-76 win over the Seattle Storm on Wednesday afternoon. Collier, who tore ligaments in her left ankle in a playoff game last September and had surgery on both ankles in the offseason, shot 9 for 20 in 24 minutes. Collier was the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year and runner-up in the MVP voting last season. The Lynx improve to 22-6 on the season.
— Caitlin Clark had 27 points and 11 assists as the Indiana Fever set a franchise record for points in a game with their 123-88 victory over the Connecticut Sun. Aliyah Boston added 22 points for the Fever, who also had the biggest half in franchise history when they led 70-46 at the break. It was the third-highest scoring game in WNBA history without overtime.
NFL
— The Chiefs unveiled Wednesday the first renderings for their new stadium in Kansas that is scheduled to open for the 2031 season. One of the biggest aspects of the design is that the $3 billion, fully enclosed dome will feature a ceiling of translucent panels. The stadium will hold 70,000 seats and will be built with the intention of amplifying crowd noise. In late December, Kansas lawmakers voted unanimously to allow for sales tax and revenue bonds to be issued to cover up to 70% of the cost of the stadium and the accompanying mixed-use district, including the Chiefs’ new training facility.
— Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Isaiah Adams was arrested in Canada recently on four weapons charges. The 25-year-old Adams was charged with possession of a firearm obtained in a crime, possession of a restricted/prohibited firearm, no license while in possession of a loaded firearm and possessing a prohibited device. Adams was one of four people arrested. Adams’ attorney said in a statement that“ Isaiah is completely innocent in this matter. He had no knowledge of any firearm, and he will be fully exonerated.” The report says that police concluded an investigation into a male believed to be in possession of a firearm and involved in drug trafficking. Two of the other people arrested were charged with possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
— SEC Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey says conversations about the SEC breaking away from the rest of college sports are real, but not the league’s preferred path. Speaking at SEC football media days, Sankey said frustrations over NIL rules, lawsuits, player eligibility, congressional legislation and the future of the College Football Playoff have fueled those discussions. He said the SEC still sees value in remaining part of a national governing body but wants the NCAA to function more effectively. Sankey also called for stronger national NIL standards and greater transparency in athlete compensation while the SEC remains opposed to expanding the College Football Playoff beyond its current 12-team format.

— The Boston Red Sox won their 15th straight game to match a club record for the longest winning streak in team history from 80 years ago, beating the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 in the opener of a split doubleheader. They equaled the 1946 Red Sox who reached the World Series. Baltimore ended Boston’s franchise record-tying 15-game winning streak in game two with a 5-1 victory. Kyle Bradish allowed one run over six innings. It was Boston’s first loss since July 1.
— Jared Triolo and Jake Mangum hit run-scoring singles in the 10th inning as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the New York Yankees 5-3 in the opener of a day-night doubleheader.
— Max Muncy hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the sixth inning, while Tommy Edman added to the Dodgers’ lead with a bases-clearing triple in the eighth as Los Angeles beat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-5.
— Joey Ortiz went 3 for 3 and was a homer away from the cycle to help the Milwaukee Brewers defeat the New York Mets 4-3. Christian Yelich drove in two runs and Logan Henderson matched a career high with nine strikeouts over five innings for the win.
— Keider Montero and four relievers combined on a four-hit shutout as the Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago Cubs 5-1. Spencer Torkelson homered for the Tigers, who have won five of their last six series, including two sweeps.
— Salvador Perez tied the Kansas City franchise home run record, while Lane Thomas hit a tiebreaking, two-run single in the seventh to lift the Royals to a 5-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants. Perez now has 317 career home runs to tie him with Georgia Brett.
— Yordan Alvarez and Isaac Paredes hit back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning to lift the Houston Astros to a 5-2 win over the Miami Marlins, completing a three-game series sweep. Alvarez hit his major league-leading 34th homer.
— Rookie Jim Jarvis hit a run-scoring double into the right-field corner to give Atlanta the lead in a six-run eighth inning as the Braves beat the San Diego Padres 7-6.
— Griffin Jax allowed one run in six innings, while Victor Mesa Jr. drove in two runs as the Tampa Bay Rays used a three-run sixth to top the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2.
— Chase Meidroth went 4 for 4 with a pair of run-scoring singles as the Chicago White Sox beat the Texas Rangers 4-2.
— Sal Stewart hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the seventh inning to lift the Cincinnati Reds past the Seattle Mariners 5-3.
— James McCann hit his 100th major league home run and Ryan Waldschmidt hit the first of his career as part of Arizona’s seven-run fifth inning as the Diamondbacks set a season high for runs scored in a 15-5 win over the Athletics.
— Cade Cavalli threw six shutout innings, while Luis García Jr. hit a two-run homer as part of a six-run seventh as the Washington Nationals beat the Colorado Rockies 8-0.
— Hunter Dobbins scattered six hits over six shutout innings, while JJ Wetherholt hit a home run in the sixth as the St. Louis Cardinals held on for a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.
