MINNESOTA VIKINGS
— The Minnesota Vikings believe WR Jordan Addison’s off-the-field issues are behind him. Addison avoided a trial in a drunken driving case in California by pleading no contest to a lesser charge last week. He could still face a three-game suspension under league policy. The Vikings said the team is in contact with the NFL but has no expected timeline for a decision.
MINNESOTA TWINS
— Minnesota Twins starting pitcher David Festa has been placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. The 25-year-old Festa was scheduled to consult with a doctor and get an MRI yesterday. On Monday, Festa allowed four runs on three home runs in 5 1/3 innings vs. the Dodgers.
NFL
— Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Bayron Matos suffered an undisclosed injury at the end of Wednesday’s practice and was flown to a hospital on a helicopter. The injury happened in the final minutes of Day 1 of the Dolphins’ training camp. The team said Matos was airlifted in stable condition. It did not release information on the injury. The 24-year-old Matos is in his second year in the NFL.
— The Green Bay Packers announced a record $432 million in national revenue sharing from the NFL for the previous fiscal year, up from $402 million the year before. Since the Packers are the NFL’s only publicly owned team, their financials offer a rare look into league-wide numbers. The $432 million per team implies over $13 billion was shared among all 32 teams, with the growth mainly driven by expanded TV and streaming deals.
NASCAR
— NASCAR will hold a street race on Naval Base Coronado in Southern California next June as a replacement for its downtown Chicago event that ran the last three years. The move to the San Diego area doesn’t eliminate a return to Chicago, where NASCAR will still maintain an office and effort an eventual return, perhaps as early as 2027. But the shift next year will allow NASCAR to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Navy by hosting all three of its national series over a three-day weekend on June 19-21.
NBA
— A professional bettor placed 30 wagers in 46 minutes, all involving Terry Rozier in a 2023 NBA game, according to documents that reveal new details about the suspicious betting under scrutiny by federal investigators. On the morning of March 23, 2023, a bettor at a sportsbook in Biloxi, Mississippi, placed $13,759 in bets on the unders on Rozier’s stats in a game that night between the Charlotte Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans. All 30 bets won, after Rozier, an eight-year veteran with the Hornets at the time, exited 10 minutes into the game, citing a foot issue. In all, at least six sportsbooks in multiple states detected suspicious betting on Rozier props that day, with the bulk of the activity occurring in Louisiana and Mississippi. The NBA investigated the unusual activity in 2023 and found that no league rules were violated. Two years later, Rozier is one of three NBA players known to have been under investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York. Rozier has not been charged or accused of any wrongdoing.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
— The Big Ten commissioner is reiterating the league’s preference for multiple automatic qualifiers in the next version of the College Football Playoff, increasing the likelihood of a showdown with the Southeastern Conference when the format for 2026 is decided. Commissioner Tony Petitti says any change that adds at-large bids and increases the role of a selection committee, a format the SEC and others have shown a preference for, “will have a difficult time getting support of the Big Ten.”
— The Atlantic Coast Conference is entering the 2025-26 sports season having moved past uncertainty from its legal fight with member schools Clemson and Florida State. Earlier this year, the league reached a settlement in those cases that reshaped the league’s revenue-sharing model. The league also saw ESPN pick up the option to extend its media deal with the league.
MINNESOTA TWINS
— Shohei Ohtani matched a franchise record with a homer in a fifth straight game and Freddie Freeman drove in two runs with a two-out single in the ninth inning as the Dodgers rallied to beat the Minnesota Twins 4-3. Freeman hit a sinking liner to left field that eluded a diving Harrison Bader and scored Mookie Betts and Ohtani. Minnesota’s Chris Paddack allowed four hits and one run in six innings with eight strikeouts. Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow was dominant, allowing only three hits and one run with 12 strikeouts in seven innings. The Twins host Washington for a three-game series starting on Friday at 7:10 pm.
MLB
— Bo Bichette hit a two-run homer, while Chris Bassitt struck out eight in a season-high 7 1/3 innings as the Toronto Blue Jays took advantage of four New York errors to beat the Yankees 8-4. Aaron Judge hit his 37th homer, but the Yankees lost for the seventh time in 10 meetings with Toronto.
— Vinnie Pasquantino hit two of Kansas City’s four two-run homers and doubled on a 3-for-4 afternoon, leading the Royals past the Chicago Cubs 8-4. Salvador Perez and rookie Tyler Tolbert also went deep as the Royals took two of three games from the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
— Carlos Narváez hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning, while Romy Gonzalez hit a grand slam in the fifth as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 9-8. The Phillies lost a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning.
— Brice Turang drove in three runs with three hits as the Milwaukee Brewers had 17 hits overall in a 10-2 win over the Seattle Mariners.
— Francisco Lindor snapped a career-worst 0-for-31 drought and Pete Alonso ended a 2-for-34 slide as the Mets beat the Angels 6-3. New York won its fourth straight after losing its first two games coming out of the All-Star break.
— Christian Walker singled home the go-ahead run in the ninth inning as the Houston Astros beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 to complete a three-game sweep.
— Spencer Horwitz hit his first career grand slam and Bailey Falter matched a career-high with eight strikeouts to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 6-1 win and three game sweep of the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers have lost nine of their last 10 games.
— Steven Kwan singled home Bo Naylor with two outs in the eighth inning for the go-ahead run, lifting the Cleveland Guardians to a 3-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
— Nick Lodolo pitched his first complete game with eight strikeouts as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Washington Nationals. Lodolo allowed four hits with no walks.
— Tanner Gordon pitched six scoreless innings as the Colorado Rockies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-0 to win back-to-back series for the first time since last September. The Rockies’ first shutout since May 15, 2024 ended a record streak of 220 games since they last kept an opponent from scoring.
— Justin Verlander ended the longest streak of starts in a season without a win in Giants history, while Rafael Devers drove in four runs with three hits, including two home runs, as San Francisco beat the Atlanta Braves 9-3. The 42-year-old Verlander had been winless in his first 16 starts, the longest stretch by a Giants pitcher in a single season in franchise history. Verlander allowed one hit in five scoreless innings with five walks.
— Colson Montgomery hit a three-run homer in the second inning and a two-run double in the eighth, leading the Chicago White Sox to an 11-9 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.
— Jesús Sánchez hit a two-run homer, while Sandy Alcantara pitched seven innings as the Marlins beat the Padres 3-2.
