NBA
— Former Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier wants to play in the NBA while he fights sports gambling charges that sidelined him last season. Bail conditions that bar him from contact with certain players and limit his travel could complicate his potential return. The U.S. District Judge denied a defense request to modify Rozier’s bail conditions so he can practice and play with potential witnesses as long as they don’t talk about the case. The judge said it would be impossible to police Rozier’s on-court conversations. The Judge admonished Rozier for already violating the no-contact provision of his $3 million bond by sending a text message to a person he was told not to communicate with. Rozier was contacting the person to tell the person he was on the no-contact list.

— Former Dallas Mavericks majority owner Mark Cuban is accusing team governor Patrick Dumont of freezing him out of business opportunities regarding the team’s proposed arena relocation. Cuban, who still owns 27 percent of the franchise, claims his businesses are contractually entitled to participate in the development.

The 43-year-old Verlander is the oldest player in Major League Baseball. He allowed five runs in 3 2/3 innings at Arizona on March 30. That was his only start this year.  Verlander went on the injured list with hip inflammation early in the season and when he was nearing a return last month, he pulled a hamstring during a bullpen session.
