— Palace City Post 18 baseball will compete at the Yankton Tournament starting on Friday and running through Sunday.
— Palace City 13-and-under baseball lost both ends of a doubleheader vs. Watertown on Wednesday, 14-2 in four innings and 10-1 in five innings. The Junior Legion team was swept in a doubleheader vs. Dakota Valley on Wednesday, 16-1 in four innings and 14-7 in six innings.
— The Palace City Junior Legion team plays in the Alex Kummer Memorial Tournament starting Friday in Tea, facing Yankton at noon. Play continues on Saturday with a 9:30 a.m. matchup against Aberdeen in Harrisburg and then returning to Tea at 7:30 p.m. Saturday to take on Dakota Valley to end group play. The top-four pool play finishers advance to Sunday’s championship bracket.
— Palace City 14U will play in its home tournament on Sunday, hosting Winner in a doubleheader at 11 a.m. at Drake Field. The 13U team will be home on Saturday at Drake Field, playing Sioux Falls Post 15 at 3 p.m. and Winner at 7 p.m.
— Palace City Baseball Association will conduct its annual Pop Drive Fundraiser on Thursday, June 4th. The fundraiser helps to support summer baseball opportunities for South Dakota Class A and American Legion baseball players in Mitchell. Players from Palace City Baseball will be helping sell Pepsi products throughout the community as part of the fundraising effort from 5 PM to 8 PM. Community members can purchase a variety of Pepsi products, Bubbl’r sparkling waters, and bottled water through the fundraiser. Pre-sales are available now online at PalaceCityBaseball.com.
MINNESOTA TWINS
— Erick Fedde pitched five scoreless innings for his first win in 10 months as the Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 8-0 to avoid a series sweep. Rookie Sam Antonacci went 4 for 4 with two doubles, a walk and a hit by pitch for the White Sox. The Twins start a four-game series vs. the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night at 6:40 pm at Target Field.
— The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson from the Minnesota Twins for cash considerations. Woods Richardson was designated for assignment by the Twins on Saturday. He was 0-7 with a 7.74 ERA in 12 games, including 10 starts. The 25-year-old previously pitched in the minor leagues for Toronto and was a second-round pick by the New York Mets in 2018.

— The South Dakota High School Softball Championships will be held June 4th – 6th. The Class AA state tournament is at Augustana University in Sioux Falls while the Class A and Class B tournaments are in Aberdeen.

— Jalen Brunson scored 30 points, while Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds as the New York Knicks erased a 14-point second-half deficit to beat the San Antonio Spurs 105-95 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night. The Knicks have won 12 straight playoff games, become the seventh team in NBA history to do so. Victor Wembanyama had 26 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs, but he shot 6 for 21 from the field in his finals debut. Game 2 is Friday in San Antonio.
— NBA Commissioner Adam Silver says the league remains on track to launch a new European basketball league by the 2027-28 season as part of a long-term global expansion strategy. Silver said Wednesday that the NBA and FIBA partnership is progressing on schedule, with franchise bids due later this month and strong interest from prospective ownership groups. He said cities such as Paris and Manchester are among those expected to be involved, as the NBA continues expanding its footprint overseas. Silver also said the league is continuing discussions about potential expansion in the U.S., including Seattle and Las Vegas, but no final timeline has been set.
— Terry Rozier’s attorney is asking a federal judge to lift a court order that bars him from contacting the Charlotte Hornets, arguing the restriction could block his return to the NBA as free agency approaches. In a filing Wednesday in U.S. District Court in New York, Rozier’s attorney said the no-contact order would effectively prevent him from signing with any team, since it would limit communication with his former organization during the league’s free agency period, which begins June 30. Rozier is accused of conspiring in a betting scheme tied to his performance in a 2023 game while with Charlotte. He has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges.

— Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred says Major League Baseball’s proposal for a salary cap could trigger a work stoppage similar to the 1994-95 strike that canceled the World Series. Manfred said Wednesday the owners believe a cap is needed because the current luxury tax system is no longer ensuring competitive balance. The league has proposed limits on spending beginning in 2027, along with a payroll floor and a possible revenue-sharing model tied to a cap system. Players have strongly opposed a salary cap and say they are prepared to fight the proposal when collective bargaining talks continue ahead of the current agreement expiring Dec. 1. MLB also is discussing expansion, Olympic participation for major leaguers in 2028, and changes to local broadcast revenue sharing as part of broader labor talks.

— Former Alabama head football coach Nick Saban voiced support Wednesday for a bipartisan Senate bill aimed at overhauling college sports as major conferences push back against the proposal. At a Senate Commerce Committee hearing, Saban and other witnesses backed legislation that would regulate athlete compensation, limit transfers to one free move during a college career and restrict midseason coaching changes. Saban warned lawmakers and argued Congress needs to intervene to stabilize college athletics. The proposal faces opposition from the SEC and Big Ten, which say the bill leaves key issues unresolved. The measure is part of a broader push in Congress to address sweeping changes in college athletics.

— NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will not testify before Congress next week at a hearing focused on the league’s broadcast and streaming deals, citing ongoing litigation. In a letter to the House Judiciary Committee, the NFL’s general counsel said Goodell declined the June 10 invitation due to legal matters tied to the topic of the hearing. Lawmakers have raised concerns about rising costs for fans and the league’s increasing use of paywalled streaming platforms. The committee is also examining whether the NFL’s media agreements comply with the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961, which provides a limited antitrust exemption for the league’s broadcast deals.
— An arrest warrant has been issued for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk on a misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speeding. The warrant stems from a video Aiyuk posted on social media in December that appeared to show him driving above the speed limit near Levi’s Stadium. Aiyuk later apologized, saying he would stop posting speeding-related content. He is currently on the reserve list as he recovers from a knee injury and has been away from the team amid ongoing contract and participation issues. The 28-year-old has 294 career receptions and 25 touchdowns since being drafted in 2020.

Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber homered in the seventh inning, leading the Phillies to a 3-2 victory over the San Diego Padres. Sánchez’s streak ranks as the third-best overall dating to the start of the Live Ball Era in 1920 behind the Dodgers’ Orel Hershiser, with a record 59 straight scoreless innings in 1988, and Don Drysdale with 58 in 1968.
— The Giants Logan Webb carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, while Victor Bericoto hit his first career homer as the San Francisco shutout the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0. Webb allowed one hit and one walk over seven innings. Milwaukee’s only hit off Webb came with one-out in the seventh.
— Shohei Ohtani threw six scoreless innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers shutout the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-0. Ohtani allowed two hits and struck out six while lowering his major league-best ERA to 0.74.
— Detroit’s Troy Melton allowed only two runs over a career-long eight innings, while Dillon Dingler drove in four runs as the Tigers finished off a three-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays with a 7-2 victory. Detroit scored 25 runs on 19 extra base hits in the three games at Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay has dropped eight of the past 10 games. The Rays’ lead in the AL East dropped to 0.5 games heading into Wednesday night.
— José Ramírez hit one of Cleveland’s three home runs off Gerrit Cole and finished with three hits for the second consecutive game as the Guardians beat the New York Yankees 5-4.
— Nick Kurtz singled in automatic runner Alika Williams in the 10th inning as the Athletics rallied for a second straight win, 5-4 over the Chicago Cubs.
— Bo Bichette had four hits as the New York Mets beat Seattle 7-1 to end the Mariners eight game winning streak.
